More Scout Rangers to run after NPA rebels on Negros Is.
By GILBERT BAYORAN
TODAY Correspondent
BACOLOD CITY - More than 500 of the Army’s elite combat-tested Scout Rangers, who are veterans in the campaign against Abu Sayyaf bandits and Muslim secessionists in Mindanao, will soon fight New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas on Negros Island.
This came after renewed clashes between the communist guerrillas and patrolling soldiers on Thursday in barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City, which killed militiaman Regie Pasuelme.
Two helicopter gunships from Mactan Air base in Cebu are now joining soldiers of the 61st Infantry Battalion in the conduct of pursuit operations against the estimated 20 NPA rebels encountered by government forces.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Noel Buan, a former captive of the NPA Melito Glor Command, was designated commander of the newly formed Scout Ranger Battalion, expected to arrive today at the port of Amlan town in Negros Oriental.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sodusta, 303rd Infantry Brigade (IB) commanding general, has confirmed the arrival of more soldiers on Negros.
The seven Army Ranger companies from Samar, Leyte, Bohol, Cebu and Panay will be consolidated into a battalion upon their arrival, Capt. Gulliver Señires, 303rd IB spokesman, said.

Gofart Demon - July 31, 2004 03:40 AM (GMT)
What are those orange thingies in their rucksucks - tarpaulin sheets as tents?
:demon:
FrodoFrog - July 31, 2004 03:45 AM (GMT)

SharFshuTzeN - July 31, 2004 07:27 PM (GMT)
The photo looks like a recruitment poster :thumb: ... quite right frodo, thats why they dont bunch up like that in operational patrols... heck, you dont need a grenade round, just a quick burst of 7.62 MG fire... perhaps in patrols they are maybe 50 feet apart :snipemo:

Supposedly they are using Barrett M82s, ROBAR 60s, Accurized M14s and M24 SWS. Their snipers are rumoured to hit 1/2 MOA targets to 600 meters with rifles and 2Km with the barret.

This clearly a recruitment poster, I have observed on TV that they have no patches when operating and they use rain ponchos as tents. And the team is clearly climbing up to high ground in single file column? nah! It would look like a bad WWII B-Movie.

the recon element is not supposed to engage the enemy, its job is to seek, identify, assess and inform, but if it is detected and is engaged, its better to have the firepower than none at all. the grenade launcher is a force multiplier so 3 recon grenadiers against a platoon of enemy combatants is what i call a fair fight... ;)

I agree, the M203 is used primarily as weapon to cover tactical withdrawal from a compromised recon mission or chance contact. Mass grenadier fire can be effective against massed assualt. Don't u guys watch Robin Padilla or FPJ movies?

Lito Lapid does it better, in one old movie of his, I saw him mow down wave upon wave of assaulting NePs armed only with two M16s - one in each hand. :D

di ba dapat may radioman? kasi about on what i know the current SR formation is a section composed of two 7 man team saka C2 elements.. and pag recon palaging may kasama na radioman ang team leader to coordinate with the section leader..
ColdDeadFish - September 13, 2004 11:39 AM (GMT)
Do we have enough radios to equip each team with a man pack radio, If I am not mistaken, the AFP TO&E only assigns one radio per platoon (equivalent to 2 SR sections or 4 SR 7 man teams). Too bad doctrine can not be practiced. kahit man lang handheld.

You know that situation they had during operations in Rajah Muda. Cell sites didn't have complete coverage so both MILF and troops had to identify areas na meron signal.
A new frontier in counter ELINT preparation of the battle field. Deployment of GSM and SMS signal blockers to draw users into areas with clear signal, then wait in kill. :specool:

eye for an eye na laban ng Army at NPA considering the 4ID massacre lately.
But let's not rejoice for the killing of these 9 NPA guerillas. :nono:
They are still Pinoys. :exactly:
Sadly, they're fighting in the other side.
:whogives:
