There are special forces (SR, LRC, etc) and there are the “regular” Army IDs but what about formations in between?
The army IDs would continue on territorial missions. If there were intermediate forces, these could add to the RDF pool that already includes the SR and SF units, and the marines. They’ll be the “better” tier in a good(regular units)-better-best(SF) analogy.
These intermediate forces won’t exactly be SF but be “SF-capable”. At the risk of unnecessarily ruffling feathers by making an inter-service comparison, these more rigorously trained and capable infantry would be the army’s equivalent of the marines.
They’ll be better trained than regular units and, after the SF, be the tip of modernization spear as they’ll get priority in acquiring new equipment and training in new tactics.
As for the required manpower, each of the army’s 9 divisions could contribute a battalion’s worth of troops, so that one division-sized intermediate force could be formed, probably operating as 3 separate brigades (let’s call ‘em regiments). (As a result, the present IDs would have one of its brigades under strength, which they could later fill up with new recruits or just leave at that.)
These 3 intermediate-force regiments could be designated as “airborne” to distinguish them from (regular) infantry but since we have no aircraft anyway, could be inappropriate. Don't really know what to label them besides merely describing them as intermediate forces. At any rate, the ultimate goal would to expand the proportion of better trained and more capable RDF troops in the context of having the more sizable ground formations in the 9 IDs.

I think this is in part the objective of the DRC (Division Recon Company) albeit a company size unit composed of SR trained personnel. Although its main task is being the Strike unit of the division, it can step up to intermediate formations onced it is upgraded into battalion/brigade size. But knowing the expanse of a Division AOR, the lack of officers manning the line units, this is still far from fruition.
We should classify infantry divisions into the following:
Light Infantry Division
Mechanized Infantry Division
Airborne Infantry Division
in order to be more specific with their roles.
It would be wise to have a seaborn fast attack division, no?
