Hello Didu!

If you browsed through the now extinct ( temporarily, hopefully) Opus Timawa Forums, you would know who I am.

As for venturing into the hobby, i strongly recommend you visit the webpage of my hobby group for starters:

IPMS Philippines Bert Anido Chapter

Here you can find members who will be more than willing to help you in your interest in the hobby. Dont be intimidated by the works or skills of some of the members, everyone started somewhere.

The group holds meetings monthly at UP Diliman College of Fine Arts during the second Sunday of the month. We just had a meeting last Sunday having an internal " What If..." contest. Fos August, a big project is in the offing.

If you are interested in PAF topics, there are a lot of enthusiasts there, like BGEN Ernie Aquino AFP (Ret), Prof. Mel Silvestre, Jim Gonzales, and Tony Feredo to name a few. As for other AFP topics, there are also other resource persons there.

We also have an discussion board that is opne to the public, unfortunately its in maintenance mode ( and has been for a week now considering the amount of topics already inputted). Please check it out every now and then to see if its back and join in the discussion. The link is:

IPMS BAC Discussion Board

Hope this helps... :armycheers:

Cost of a kit depends on the kit you are building, re size, make, etc- this does not include appurtenances like paint, glue, etc.

But for starters, easy aircraft kits cost about Php 150 ( i think the 1:144 scale), and figures go for about Php 180; as for tanks, well mga Php 350 up. Ships masw costlier... :armyeek:

Kookie - June 1, 2005 10:19 AM (GMT)
okey yan a, medyo "can afford" meh sa kit but yung paint at equipment baka yun ang mahal :armysad:

mondo bizzaro - June 1, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
Once you pop you can't stop yan.

Sa pinas mura pa kits. Umpisahan mo yung maliit na scale at mas mura at pag maymali ka oks lang. Di halata.

I already bought an Academy jeep for beginners for only 170 pesos, but I still have to buy the paint, what can you guys recommend thats cheaper than tamiya brand?

jooper - June 13, 2005 01:08 PM (GMT)
Academy enamel paint is cheaper by 20 percent. I have not seen hobby paint manufacturing outsourced to the PRoC. If it happens we might see the price cut in half.

Academy and Tamiya have Philippine factories.

The best M151 jeep model kit[pssst let us make it into a PMC vehicle -kulitin natin si jepot at MBLT for real life reference o baka may kennedy jeep ang PA-SR na pwede natin gawin]:

The kits mentioned are priced up to a maximum of 300 pesos in the Philippines.

Tormentor - June 13, 2005 01:13 PM (GMT)
I made mine from milk cans and Mayon or Triton enamel paint, a whole lot cheaper - now if I can borrow or steal someones digicam maybe i can post my works here :demon:

Di ko alam yung FA olive ng Pactra; NATO Drab pa...

kuya jepot, how to remove paint that i mistakenly put on?

jepot - July 10, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
depends on what was affected- clear area o regular area? big surface, small surface?

pag stirpper kailangan mo, dry cleaning fluid daw wont soften the palstic- havent done it but often heard among colleagues.

a mild thinner will suffice for small parts.

pag clear, well.....

If you have Trumpeter or Mini Hobbies kits you would want to be displayed please fell free to bring them at said location and inquire from any IPMS Philippines-Bert Anido member on site; NO FEES, ITS FREE...

I'd recommend armored vehicles like tanks and apc's. They're naturally dirty and easily customized which makes them great not just as scale models, but as dioramas.

With all those PVC cannons being made and sold in time for the New Year, this is one scale model I want to have to face off those gizmos

But the problem is, there is an estimated 1,300 hours and $1,200 over the course of three years of building in "Lulubelle". It won't be finished for New Year :headbang:

Comrade Jepot,

New here in this hobby forum of scale modelling. Have done scale models before but stop for almost 15 years and just starting to do it again. I usually assemble WWII tanks and on occasion modern armor. I do have limited budget when it comes to buying the much needed airbrush that one uses to make intricate and intersting camoflauge patterns. All I can afford are spray cannister paints and the usual bottle paints. Is there a technique that does away with the expensive airbrush and just use the spray can? I have tried putting cotton balls spread thinly over a subject model and spray on it lightly and later on alternating it with a different color to achieve a desired pattern but could not get the pattern I want. Maybe you have some suggestions for a scale modelling enthusiast like me. Maraming salamat.
