$1,500 a set for that Interceptor body armor, including front/back plate inserts (vest proof vs 9mm, plates vs AK47 7.62x39 and up to single 7.62x51).

Weight is 16 lbs (w/ plates), compared to older 25-lb Ranger body armor.

Story below of US soldiers getting hit with AK at close range and living to tell the tale.

QUOTE

During a foot patrol in Fallujah in late September, an Iraqi insurgent suddenly emerged from an alleyway and fired an AK-47 at Spec. John Fox from point-blank range. Fox was hit in the stomach as he returned fire, and the blast knocked him off his feet. The bullet hit the middle of three ammunition magazines hanging from the front of his Kevlar vest, igniting tracer rounds and setting off a smoke grenade. A thick gray plume poured from his vest where he lay.

Spec. John Fox’s body armor saved him not only from the AK-47 round but also from his own exploding munitions.

His squad mates, having shot and killed the gunman, rushed to his side. “Am I bleeding? Am I bleeding?” they recalled Fox asking.

They checked and discovered he was unharmed. His body armor had protected him not only from the AK-47 round but also from his own exploding munitions.

“Fox must have been only 10, 15 meters from this guy,” recalled Sgt. Roger Vasquez. “And this thing stopped the bullet.”

we can manufacture military-grade bulletproof vests in-country, it's only a matter of licensing the needed material, patterning the vests after our own or established designs, then (sub)contracting the actual production work to a local garments firm, most of whom are badly in need of help no thanks to the globalization thing, so there's an obvious economic benefit pa. heck, i used to work in the local garment exports industry back when there was a local garments export industry, the process roughly outlined is the same we used to do when churning-out pairs of jeans: licensing and subcon, just stick to those basics and save the expensive materials design work for later.

:thumb: great idea, Wushu.
