Director General Arturo Lomibao, Philippine National Police chief, ordered Ilocos Sur police officials to give police officer-3 Abel Areola, the lone fatality on the government side in the March 15 Camp Bagong Diwa siege, a hero's burial on March 30.

"He will be given a hero's burial. I am now ordering the provincial director here (Senior Superintendent Mario Subagan) to comply with this order," Lomibao told reporters on Wednesday.

Areola, 25, was killed when he and other PNP Special Action Force members stormed the Camp Bagong Diwa prison in Taguig City to end the standoff started by inmates who were members of the Abu Sayyaf bandit group.

The government should in no delay look after thre needs of his love ones or family in this very difficult times of their lives.

His demise in line of duty during that incident would be a great loss to the PNP.

The posthumous laurel a to his cap will serve as a living memory to those who served and did'nt die in vain.

From Max Suliven's column in Philstar.net

QUOTE
It was disgustingly unfair for a newspaper (not The STAR) to have hinted that the heroic policeman, PO3 Abel Areola, from Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, might have been killed by "friendly fire", not the bullets of the defiant hold-outs in prison, the Abu Sayyaf gangsters. The newspaper had quoted a "source" who claimed Areola had been shot (or even slain by a rifle grenade) fired by his fellow Special Action Force troopers.

I confronted PNP Chief Lomibao on this insinuation, and he grimaced in distaste, then showed me a copy of the official report of the "Crime Laboratory", particularly regarding the Firearms Identification Report Number: FAID-046-2005, dated 0605 Hrs., March 16, 2005.

"Killed by one of his fellow policemen?" Lomibao exclaimed. "That’s complete nonsense! A total falsehood!"

The Report he handed this writer contained "microscopic examination and comparison" of all the bullets fired and cartridge cases.

In the case of the slain policeman, who had posthumously been awarded the hero’s medal, it’s clear he had been slain in the assault on the entrenched ASG hold-outs, the lone fatality of the police SAF team.

The Report stated: "d. The caliber .45 fired bullet marked ‘AA’ (recovered from the body of one Abelardo Areola) and caliber .45 fired cartridge cases marked ‘AS-4’, ‘AS-5’. ‘AS-14’, ‘AS-15’, ‘AS-18’, ‘AS-23’, ‘AS-24’, ‘AS-26’, ‘AS-28’, ‘AS-30’, ‘AS-32’, and ‘G-129-9’ were fired from the caliber .45 Shooter SAM 1911 pistol with serial number 02980622 (Firearm licensed/registered to Rogelio Perez dela Cruz, per certification from FED, CGS dated March 16, 2005)."

It will be recalled that poor Dela Cruz had been one of the jail wardens grabbed and killed by the Abu Sayyaf would-be jailbreakers, and his personally-licensed firearms seized by the ASG detainees. As the bullets fired demonstrate, the Abu Sayyaf hoodlums fired many rounds from that gun in trying to fight off the police SAF troopers who punched in to recover control of the barricaded prison. One of those bullets proved fatal to policeman Areola.

This should reassure his grieving father, Abelardo Sr., and mother Leticia, that their 25-year old son had died a hero in the line of duty, not by some "mistake" or accident on the part of his fellow policemen.

I hadn’t known Areola came from Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, in my home province. I fondly remember Santa Maria, because as a young teenager, I had once spent a two- weeks vacation there with relatives. The acting Parish priest in those days had been Father Crispin Crisologo, an old family friend, and I had to climb those dozens of steps to serve his Mass, early every morning all the way up to the Church which stood on a hill. (There must have been a hundred steps, or so it seemed – we used to call the Church, wryly, "Thrice High"!)

I can only say to PO3 Abel Areola, God bless him! He was a brave Saluyot, one who makes us, his province-mates proud! As they used to say in Spain, "the salt of the earth!"

PNP colonel, 2 aides killed in Lanao
By John Unson
The Philippine Star 04/13/2005

COTABATO CITY – A ranking police official and two of his escorts were ambushed by heavily armed men along the Secretary Narciso Ramos Highway in Lanao del Sur yesterday.

Initial reports identified the victims as Superintendent Ferdinand Tiqui, the regional director of the Philippine National Police-Traffic Management Group in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and two of his escorts, Senior Police Officer 2 Ruben Malidas and PO1 Cerilo Cariaga.

Police said Tiqui and his men were on their way to Cotabato City when they were waylaid by heavily armed men who opened fire with assault rifles from a secluded portion of the highway in Tugaya town. All three victims died on the spot.

Three other policemen and a civilian identified as Aying Gallego survived the attack and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Senior Inspector Philip Tumaclas of the TMG-ARMM said Tiqui and the convoy had just come from Marawi City to oversee an anti-carnapping operation.

"It appeared that the ambushers waited for them in a remote section of the highway in Tugaya. There were other vehicles that passed by earlier. It is obvious they were after my superior," Tumaclas said.

Local officials said Tiqui was riding in a white Toyota Revo tailed by a security car when the gunmen opened fire with B-40 anti-tank rockets.

Witnesses said the initial volley forced the vehicle to turn over on its side before being peppered by automatic gunfire.

Tumaclas claimed other policemen in the convoy managed to fight back, engaging the gunmen in a brief firefight.

The gunmen escaped after sensing the responding militiamen at the scene.

Possible suspects would also be coming from the same outfit who were protecting the carnapping syndicate, as can be deduced on the weapons used.

The suspects might have known the route of the Colonel's convoy and the time it will pass the spot where it was executed. This angle cannot be discounted.

Basing on experience, Marawi City is the haven for carnappers in Mindanao, and their protection came from the police and the military.

I wonder how big those behind this are?

AFP and PNP?

So, how many are they, do you think?

It might be of significant number maybe more than the number years back when I was still covering this area in my defunct CIS (now CIDG) days. Mostly of them from the muslim community. There was even a case where muslim customs collector was involved in this racket, together with his cousin, a Colonel in the Army, and a Deputy PC/INP (now defunct) Regional Director for Admin. which covers Lanao del Sur and Cotabato.

In Marawi City, or let's say the whole of Lanao del Sur, if you are not use to that place, you can immediately feel that the law does'nt work in these area.

This is one of an experience story: Years back, while still in the service, my men were sent on mission to Marawi city to serve a Warrant of Arrest to 2 well-known suspects accused for Carnapping & Counterfeiting Philippine money (coins). When they coordinated with the Marawi City PC/INP to also register their presence by virtue of a Mission Order, they called in the Office of the Station Commander and the latter examined the Warrant of Arrest.
When he saw the names of the suspects in the W/A, he called one of his men & they have a conversation for a couple of minutes. Then a couple of minutes later he returned and said., Quote "These people were already dead a week ago, and one of my men, chanced to ask him ., Quote" He was seen in our area just a couple of days ago sir, how come ? The Station Commander in a rage, stood up and angrily said to him., Quote" Are you investigating me Sergeant ? You get out !"
Then moments later the desk officer handed a Death Certificate of the two suspects which they have secured in not over 10 minutes.
Then the Warrant of Arrest was returned to the issuing court and case closed.
Then about more than a year after, my operatives spotted one of the suspects declared dead in Butuan City, and was reported to the Station Commander, and was picked up for interrogation but had changed his name showing some bogus proof secured from Marawi City, and he was released only to be reported again dead this time genuine. Hew was done by the Butuan INP operatives and eventually he ended up his genuine death anyway, and no news about the other.

This is how justice works in Marawi City, and who can be proud of this culture?

Let's hope our current PNP Chief will act on that!

That is one of the fatal loopholes in the PNP system.

When senior officials are involved, you REALLY have to think twice if the next case that you will report should be relayed straight to the nearest PNP office or...

... routed to some other groups instead.

PNP claims that community participation plays a major role in the fight against crime.

Lanao police officer’s killers used B-40 anti-tank rockets, assault rifles
By John Unson
The Philippine Star 04/14/2005

COTABATO CITY — Waiting in ambush on the roadside, the killers of Superintendent Ferdinand Tiqui and his two men fired B-40 anti-tank rockets before spraying the police convoy with automatic gunfire along the Secretary Narciso Ramos Highway in Lanao del Sur early Tuesday night.

Marine Brig. Gen. Mohammad Ben Dolorfino, Anti-Crime Task Force Ranao commander, said the gunmen appeared to have targeted Tiqui, director of the Traffic Management Group in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

"We are convinced, based on initial intelligence reports reaching us, that the killing of Superintendent Tiqui could be related to his crusade against car theft in Lanao del Sur and Marawi City," Dolorfino told The STAR.

Dolorfino, also 2nd Marine Brigade commander based in Iligan City, said a big car theft syndicate could have liquidated Tiqui.

"If the ambushers were just there to harm people, they could have opened fire at us if they were already there hours before they perpetrated the ambush of Superintendent Tiqui and his men," Dolorfino said.

Tiqui and his security escorts took their usual route on Tuesday morning on their way to Cotabato City to take part in a dialogue with Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Hamid Albar, local officials, and representatives of the military, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Dolorfino said.

Lanao del Sur police have no clues yet on the identities of the killers of Tiqui, Senior Police Officer 2 Ruben Malidas and Police 0fficer 1 Cerilo Cariaga.

Police and military investigators said Tiqui and his men were on their way to Cotabato City after completing an anti-carnapping operation in Marawi City when they were waylaid by heavily armed men on a secluded portion of Ramos Highway in Tugaya town.

Three other policemen and a civilian identified as Aying Gallego survived the attack and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Peace advocates in Central Mindanao have urged the Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team enforcing the ceasefire between the government and the MILF to investigate the killing of Tiqui and his men.

Talks are circulating in Cotabato City that secessionist rebels engaged in car theft staged the ambush, local leaders said.

The gunmen escaped after sensing that militiamen were on their way to the scene.

:dontgetit:

I believe in that.

Civilians are the unsung assets of the law enforcement agencies to solve and prevent crimes, but in an atmosphere of distrust, it has simmered down these days not only because of being pre-occupied by the daily chores of survival, but also because of their lost faith in the law enforcers due to increasing and unabated
laxity in the performance of their sworn duty and most of all corruption!

This kind of unfortunate incident in Lanao del Sur is not new to everybody who is familiar with that area.

If you are a police or high ranking police officer with too much dedication to your job in this area and make waves to shake the criminal activites, then you are a gonner!

I thought this has been already sorted out by the new PNP but the scenario seems to get worse and worse.

Back to that Marawi incident, if my men was'nt able to hitch ride in an Army helicopter back to the CIS headquarters, we've got an intel report that there was an intended mission to ambush them, because the suspects who were subject to be arrested were protected by the PC/INP of that area.

SURIGAO CITY — The armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the New People’s Army (NPA), launched an attack on government forces last Friday, killing four policemen and wounding five others in this city.

The attack, the fifth in just one week in northeastern Mindanao, occurred in Sitio Parangparang, Barangay Mat-I, 22 kilometers south of here, while the 30-man escorting and clearing company from the 1404th Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Mobile Group (PPMG) and Surigao City Police Office were on their way back to this city. The attack occurred at 1:25 p.m.

Killed on the spot were Senior Police Officer 4 Eleuterio Tusay Espejon, Police Officer 2 Jubert Quico Montenegro, Police Officer 1 Armando Forcadilla Ragas, and Police Officer 1 Rewen Galanida Alabata.

Wounded were PO2 Raul Gocela Degrano, Police Officer 1 Brigido Horbuda Abogado, Police Officer 2 Henry Saavedra, and Police Officers 1 Aurora and Intoc. They were immediately taken to the Surigao City Hospital for treatment. All of them were declared out of danger by doctors.

The lawmen were asked by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Surigao City Metropolitan Water District to accompany them in checking alleged illegal mining and logging operations at the watershed in Barangay Mat-I. None of the civilian personnel in the group were either killed or wounded in the attack.

The civilian personnel were on board an Isuzu dump truck and Isuzu Elf and a pick-up truck while most of the policemen were on board a V-150 armored vehicle.

The NPAs, who were in a vantage position on both sides of a mountain, peppered with gunfire the V150 armored vehicle, where most of the policemen were on board. The police managed to retaliate in the hour-long encounter.

Two bands of NPAs with 50 members each ambushed the convoy.

Police and military intelligence sources said the ambushers were members of the CPP-NPA "Kamu" Front Committee 16 under Ka Abelardo Magpatoc, the same group that attacked the PA-CAFGU detachment of the 30th Infantry Battalion on Thursday in Barangay Cabongbongan, this city. Joint elements of the Army and CAFGU managed to defend their camp in the 30-minute firefight.

"The rebels ambushed our troops on the ground but police managed to fight back," said Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Celso J. Curitana.

"My men were just escorting the DENR and Surigao City Metropolitan Water District when they were ambushed just one kilometer away from MatI," Curitana said.

Curitana said his men were given a more than two hour security briefing before they left the Surigao del Norte police headquarters at 8 a.m. for Barangay Mat-I. "However, on their way back to Surigao City from Barangay Mat-I, they were ambushed, killing on the spot the four policemen who were on top of the V150."

A hot pursuit by joint forces of the Surigao del Norte police and the 30th Infantry Battalion in the mountains of Surigao del Norte is under way.

Col. Ricardo David, commanding officer of the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade in the CARAGA region, was ordered by the Army’s Fourth Infantry (Diamond) Division to send more troops to reinforce the pursuers in Surigao del Norte. He was also ordered to strengthen the defenses of their headquarters in the field and conduct round-the-clock combat patrols to prevent enemy attacks.

The alert order was raised to the highest level following statement of Jorge "Ka Oris" Madlos that the "guerilla fighters must step up their tactical offensive against police and military installations in their jurisdictions."

Early this week through a radio broadcast, Ka Maria Malaya, NDF spokesman for northeastern Mindanao, asked civilians in police and military installations to avoid being hit in the crossfire.

Baby survives as daddy cop carrying him is shot dead

By RICO C. NAVARRO

A Quezon City policeman, who was carrying his eight-month-old baby, was shot dead by five unidentified assailants inside a billiard hall in Quezon City yesterday morning.

The bullets luckily missed the baby who sustained no injury in the incident, police said.

Police identified the victim as SPO2 Randulf Gulferic, 36, of Lilac St., Bgy. West Fairview, Quezon City and detailed at the follow-up section of the Theft and Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Quezon City Police District Office in Camp Karingal, Quezon City.

Police said the incident occurred at around 6:45 a.m. inside the victim’s billiard hall on Lilac St., Barangay West Fairview.

Witnesses said the victim was carrying his baby when the suspects armed with handguns suddenly entered the billiard hall.

Based on the witnesses’ testimonies, two of the five suspects entered the billiard hall and shot the victim twice while the three remaining suspects stood as lookout. The suspects then casually walked away and boarded a tricycle.

The barangay watchmen who first arrived at the scene said they saw Gulferic slumped on the floor with two gunshot wounds, one in the head and the other in the chest. The victim’s hand was still holding the baby’s arm when the barangay watchmen arrived at the scene.

Police said they are still conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the killing.

2 cops, 1 civilian killed in Or. Mindoro NPA attack

Victims on their way to secure Globe cell site

By ARIS R. ILAGAN

Two police officers and a civilian were killed and another was seriously wounded yesterday morning when heavily armed New People’s Army (NPA) rebels ambushed a 12-man police team while on its way to secure a cell site in Puerto Galera.

Reports identified the slain police officers as PO1 Roderick Padojinog and PO1 Amormio Baticos, and the dead civilian as Leonardo Caube.

Another police officer, PO2 Dondon Pangilinan, was seriously wounded in the attack.

Chief Supt. Delfin Genio, director of the MIMAROPA Police Regional Office, said the members of the police team, who were from 3rd Regional Mobile Group, were on their way to secure the cell site of Globe Telecommunications Co. when they were ambushed by an NPA group at Sitio Minolo, Barangay San Isidro, Puerto Galera at 7:20 a.m.

The victims were on board a dump truck owned by the municipal government of Puerto Galera. The truck hit a land mine allegedly planted by the communist rebels to the road.

The explosion disabled the dump truck and caused the instant death of Padojinog and Baticos.

The other team members struggled to leave the truck to seek refuge in safe area as they were bombarded with heavy gunfire by the rebels.

Two policemen — a certain Inspector Gani and PO1 Joseph Panes who were earlier reported to have been abducted by the fleeing rebels — later surfaced and returned to the ambush site.

They said they chased the rebels in a forested area but their efforts proved futile.

Reports also stated the rebels fled to different directions when police reinforcement from the 3rd PMG arrived at the ambush site.

Supt. Nestor Rosero, RMG group director, set up an RMG detachment at the site in an effort to prevent another ambush.

MPD holds vigil for slain official
The Philippine Star 03/08/2006

The remains of a slain Manila police official were brought to the Manila Police District (MPD) headquarters yesterday for an overnight vigil, where his colleagues paid their last respects to their superior who died in service.

Inspector Oliver Lusero, 33, detailed at the MPD’s District Police Intelligence Unit (DPIU), was shot by one of the arrested members of a robbery gang while they were being transported to the headquarters last Friday.

He died last Sunday at the UERM Hospital.

Lusero’s assailant, one Roger Balagat, was in turn shot dead by DPIU operative PO2 Jolly Aliangan when the former tried to snatch the cop’s service firearm along Road 10 in Tondo in a follow-up operation.

Meanwhile, the Filipino-Chinese General Chamber honored last Monday eight Manila policemen who were wounded and killed in action.

The annual recognition, held at Heroes Hall in Malacañang, is bestowed by the group for the bravery shown by the men and women in police service.

Survivors of three Manila policemen killed in action, namely SPO2 Antonio Razala, PO2 Enrique Lazaro and PO3 Angel Lico, received the heroism award bestowed on the fallen cops.

Two injured policemen, SPO1 Manuel Aceveda and PO2 Donny Francisco, were given special recognition for risking their lives while pursuing suspected criminals during police operations.

The group also gave awards to three policewomen of the MPD’s Civil Disturbance Management Unit as frontliners who suffered injuries at the hands of protesters in Mendiola last Oct. 21.

They are Senior Inspector Rosanna Mangao, PO3 Aldine Moreno and PO3 Ma. Theresa Solidarios.

MPD director Chief Superintendent Pedro Bulaong hailed the group for recognizing the heroic acts of Manila policemen.

"The MPD expresses sincere gratitude to the organizers as we salute our colleagues who never fail to continue to carry on our mandate to uphold peace and order," Bulaong said.

Lusero, whose remains will be interred in his home province Cagayan de Oro City, is already included in next year’s honorees of the group. – Nestor Etolle

This unfortunate incident was a common occurrence since time immemorial in police job where rookies fall victim while in the performance of the job.

One aspect that can be attributed to it is the lack of foresight and proper assessment of the situation before executing a response to a blind and dangerous situation, where self-protection and security is paramount over the immediate assault on the situation.

Sometimes cops with too much enthusiasm to perform a duty lost their lives unnecessarily when they forgot the golden rule of self-preservation during confrontations with criminals who outnumber them in a given situation. However, the untimely demise of the poor rookie cop is not in vain as he had sacrificed his life to perform a duty.

Cop, NPA ‘hit man’ slain in Agusan Sur clash

BUTUAN CITY - A police intelligence officer and an alleged member of New People’s Army (NPA) "hit squad" were killed, and another rebel was reportedly wounded when a gunbattle broke out between policemen and rebels in Barangay Guadalupe, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur last Thursday, a regional police chief reported yesterday.

In a spot report sent to Director-General Arturo Lomibao, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Chief Supt. Geary L. Barias, Region 13 director of the PNP, identified the slain policeman as Police Officer 3 Leonardo Asiga of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, who was assigned to the police station in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur.

A 9mm pistol and a wristwatch of Asiga were lost and believed taken away by the NPA rebels, Barias said.

Barias also identified the slain, suspected NPA "hit squad" member as Allan Surita, 24.

Surita was reportedly sneaked out by his comrades of the battle area and brought to Esperanza Medicare Community Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Barias identified the wounded suspected rebel as certain "Ka Roger."

The gunbattle took place when operatives of Bayugan police station were verifying reports on wanted persons and "revolutionary taxation" activities of the communist movement in Guadalupe. They chanced upon the "hit squad" of Front Committee 21 of the CPP-NPA.

Barias said farmers and businessmen are hard hit by the extortion activities of the rebels. (Mike Crismundo)

(2ND UPDATE) ZAMBOANGA CITY – Suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits on Tuesday killed a town police chief and three of his men, and wounded three others in an ambush in Barangay Bualo in Maimbung town on the island of Sulu.

The dead were Maimbung police chief, Inspector Abdusamad Manalang, Senior Police Officers 3 Alling Jumin and Alonto Ismael, and a still unidentified member of a local militia.

Sulu police chief Senior Superintendent Ahirum Ajirim said the victims were responding to a call from the 33rd Infantry Battalion "for a clearing operation, but along the way, they were greeted with gunfire."

Lieutenant Colonel Pablo Lorenzo, 35th Infantry Battalion commander, said the ambush was an offshoot of hostilities that broke out Monday between government security forces and Abu Sayyaf bandits.

Lorenzo said a certain Albader Parad led the bandits.

Four car wash boys nabbed for killing cop

The Philippine Star 08/17/2006

Operatives of the Makati City Police Department arrested four car wash boys after they allegedly beat up and shot dead a police officer in Makati City yesterday.

One of the suspects also smashed the face of Senior Police Officer 1 Orlando de Leon with a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank to make sure he was dead.

The suspects, identified as Romeo de Castro, 26, Randolf Abanil, 19, Eric de Castro, 20, and Roland Pabanil, 20, were nabbed shortly after the incident.

Senior Inspector Gary Reyes, chief of the MCPD homicide section, said the suspects shot the officer with his own service firearm — a caliber .45 pistol.

The incident took place at around 3 a.m. at the corner of Apolinario and Estrella streets, in Bangkal, Makati.

Reyes said De Leon was on his way home from Police Community Precinct 3 when he responded to an altercation between two groups of men.

While trying to break up the fight, one of the suspects grabbed the officer’s gun. The others then beat him up.

"After beating him up, the elder De Castro shot him," Reyes said. "To make sure the officer was dead, he came back with an LPG tank and slammed it into the victim’s face.

Police conducted an aggressive follow-up operation, which led to the arrest of the four car wash boys," he said.

De Castro was nabbed in Taguig while the other three were collared near the area where the attack took place.

Arresting officers were able to recover the firearm used in the slay as well as the LPG tank.

All four suspects are now detained at the MCPD detention cell.

Reyes said the suspects claimed it was a "spur of the moment" act.

He added that investigators are now checking the background of each suspect, particularly De Castro, who was wearing a Bureau of Corrections shirt when arrested.– Michael Punongbayan

Tsk tsk tsk, these cop killers, would have their rectum penetrated by something solid soon. :fire:

cops hate cop killer, remember the golden rule.

I would be surprise if these vermins will survive until the last stage of the hearing of the case.

Much that I was surprise is that they were still in complete pieces during the arrest.

I would have wished it was during my time. There birthdays could have been stopped and moved to November 2 of every year for wasting the life of an officer who was doing a job. :demon: :fire:

Cop, rob suspects killed in Las Piñas shootout

QUOTE
A policeman and two suspected robbers were killed in what police said was a shootout in Las Piñas late Tuesday night, ABS-CBN News reported Wednesday. Investigators identified the fatalities as Police Officer 3 Francisco Pangilinan, Reynaldo Mendoza and Alex Angeles. Rose de Luna, a witness to the shootout, said Pangilinan accosted Mendoza and his companions for acting suspiciously while inside a tricycle in Barangay Almanza II at around 10:30 p.m. "Ayaw nilang pumayag, 'ayun nagkaputukan na (The shootout happened after the suspects refused to yield for an inspection)." Stray bullets hit the windshield of a passing taxi driven by Alberto Tatad. A third suspect, who remained unidentified as of posting time, commandeered the taxi. It was found abandoned several hundred meters from the area. Witnesses said a wounded Angeles attempted to escape on a tricycle and told driver Alan Maselang to take him to a hospital. He, however, died before reaching the hospital. With a report from Dominic Almelor

Something wrong here... 1 against 3. No back-up to cover him up. Shows we do lack policemen.

To PO3 Francisco Pangilinan, :salute:

It could have been an encounter by chance where a lone police officer had come across with hoodlums and then action was spur-of-the-moment, that there was no more chance of calling for a back-up or assistance.

In the Philippine Star Metro News today, PO3 Pangilinan was with another cop manning a nearby check-point. They have observed the 2 suspects rooming suspisciously in a nearby convenience store for about an hour. When they tried to check on them, they were shot at with .38 cal guns. He was able to fire his 9mm service pistol gunning down 1 suspect with 1 escaping wounded. However, a third suspect acting as look-out shot him at the back. His partner wasn't able to get the gunman with his issued M-16. The wounded suspect escaped to Bacoor Cavite were he was brought by by-standers to a hospital were he expired. The assailant is still at large.

Man, they had a photo of the cop face down beside a car with bloodied hood. :armysad:

Fmr TOPP Awardee 82'PNP - August 31, 2006 09:56 AM (GMT)
If they sensed suspicion on the group, as they were observing them for an hour, their approach should have been drastic with their eyes and guns trained at them so that they can monitor any false move, and then and there, order them to yield subsequent to searching of any hidden weapon.

Cop killed in latest Zambo City shooting

QUOTE
The Philippine Star 10/30/2006

ZAMBOANGA CITY (AFP) — Gunmen killed a city policeman yesterday, the latest in a string of execution-style killings that have targeted authorities the past week.

Police officer Rodrigo Deza was on a motorcycle when he was shot from behind by two gunmen who had tailed him, also using a motorcycle, on a busy road in this port city.

"He was shot in the head," Zamboanga police chief Jose Gucela said, adding that a manhunt for the killers was underway.

Deza’s service pistol was missing, but his M-16 automatic rifle was recovered from the crime scene, he said.

Deza is the latest victim in a string of killings to have hit the city over the past week.

Last Friday, a government soldier, Carlito Alvarez, and a Muslim employee of the Air Transportation Office, Abdulgafar Udin, were killed in separate attacks.

Alvarez was riding a motorcycle when he was shot several times in the head, while Udin was shot in the chest at least 13 times as he was walking to work.

Two policemen were killed in a similar attack last Tuesday, while the previous day, a soldier and a civilian companion were killed when gunmen attacked their apartment.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Gucela said police were already on the trail of "suspects" he did not name.

The killings came amid heightened security in Mindanao after bomb attacks earlier this month, blamed on Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah militants, killed 12 and injured dozens.

Abu Sayyaf militants have in the past slipped into Zamboanga City to carry out bombings and kidnappings.

The Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah are both on the US government’s list of foreign terrorist organizations.

flipzi - October 31, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
This requires an enhanced intel and "strike team" tandem to pinpoint and annihilate the killers.

I believe these are the ASG/JI urban hit squad.

The police must engage them head on. SWAT or special ops or a crack troop composed of SAF units are needed here to complement the work of the intel guys.

Dapat shoot to kill na rin ang mga confirmed hitmen! Face them head on! :salute:

4 cops, civilian die in Masbate rebel ambush

By Bobby Labalan

Last updated 02:02pm (Mla time) 12/18/2006

SORSOGON CITY-- (UPDATE) Four policemen and a civilian were killed in an ambush staged by suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) in Placer, Masbate, Sunday afternoon, police said Monday morning.

A team from the Placer police station was on its way by boat to Barangay (village) Manlutod when waylaid by a still undetermined number of rebels, said Senior Superintendent Eugenio Alcovindas, Masbate police provincial director.

He identified the victims as Police Officer 3 Jose Banaag, the team leader, Police Officer 1 Juan Compuesto, Andrew Tiu and Dominador Raymundo, and civilian Nilo dela Peña.

An Associated Press report, citing field reports quoted by national police headquarters in Manila, said the slain officers, who were conducting combat operations, were in a small boat with Dela Peña and two other civilians when the rebels fired on them.

A joint police and Army team launched pursuit operations against the rebels, Alcovindas added.

Government troops and the 7,200-strong NPA have clashed repeatedly as the military tries to wipe out guerrillas in key areas within the two-year deadline set earlier this year by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The clashes have dimmed hopes for a resumption of stalled Norwegian-brokered peace talks.

Two years ago, the rebels withdrew from the talks on ending 37 years of insurgency, saying the government was not making efforts to remove them from US and European terror lists.

This is a very sad incident that bad luck had stricken to an honest cop who was driving his passenger van during his off hours as deputy chief of Police of Makati City. How sad for a cop who worked honestly in an odd job in order to make ends meet for his family.

Fate is just so cruel that he was killed while engaged in an honest way of earning money to supplement his meager income while some of his colleagues enjoys a happy if not lavish lifestyle from the ill-gotten proceeds out of corrupt practices.
