centurion - August 10, 2004 04:42 AM (GMT)
what PMC armored vehicle was hit during the assault against MI strongholds in 2000, was it a V300 ?

what hit the vehicle, was it RPG or recoilless rifle?

I have not found any account of it in PMC websites yet.

There is one documented and acknowledged loss of a V300FSV as well as another unconfirmed loss during recent combat operations in the island of Jolo.  The acknowledge casualty occurred during operations along the Narciso Ramos highway in 2001.  The V300 had gotten past its supporting elements and had taken an RPG round in the rear which in turn detonated the stored ammunition.  [RIP to the fallen, ed.]

It was a V300, the Marines dont operate the Simba.

Hmmm. Yun pala ang silbi ng mga armored skirts to deflect such type of damage. Hindi ba pwede maglagay ng ganun sa mga APCs natin?

Yeah, right. It was a V-300 pala.

Yep, I guess that's the pic I saw before (from saver111's post)... but that was a long time ago.

Sorry, if I wasn't able to recall it correctly.

Anyway, I know that the PMC doesn't operate the Simba.

E.R.A., as additional protection for this vehicles to prevent another loss at least.

Cheapest RPG protection available w/ around 70% effectiveness

In Iraq, it is very effective. But i don't the effects it will have on the performance of the vehicle in operations w/ dense vegetation.

Some enterprising crew installed wood flitches on the sides of M113s supposedly to pre-explode RPGs. There was even a photo of that M113 somewhere here.

I wonder whether its effectiveness was proven in combat.

I think the cheapest were the rolls of cyclone fences the installed as applique armor during the vietnam war. :armyLol:

The idea was the wood flitches absorbs the impact of the RPG so much so the warhead fusing does not detonate. Sometimes lead was used for this purpose.

It is of course useless for projectile type anti-armor and also modifying the RPG fuses nullified this defense.

The slat armor in the pics posted by SB were a popular mod for the strykers.

I heard of some instances that RPGs were caught inside large soft-skinned plastic water containers and did not detonate. But from other research. when RPG detonates, it easily passes through water, sand & ordinary ceramic.
