Fidel V. Ramos - what is he to you?

I cant seem to find the right choice! :drunk:

He's not exactly a statesman.

Neither exactly an opportunist.

Or even exactly a manipulator.

But definitely a composition of all the above. :drunk:

... i guess.

Nonetheless, i admired the man for what he did with our economy then.

His worst record? The Mischief Reef blunder! :bs: :headbang:

He also failed to use his wit in manipulating or outsmarting other people to modernize the AFP.

FVR is what our country needs. Steady, bland and without much color. His administration projected an aura of stability, continuity and cohesion in his team.

He was also lucky. In his time, the 90's was also the wireless network era and IT boom. I guess yung telecoms boom was inevitable, FVR or no FVR in Malacanang. Pero one thing I truly admire among his accomplishment is the breaking of the telecom monopoly by PLDT. This brought about new players like digitel, bayantel etc. Kaya yung IDD and NDD calls sa atin naging cheaper at better ang service.

Credit also to his administration yung Jalosjos conviction at Robin Padilla case. May sense of justice din yung tao. Compare it with Erap whose own son Jude beat up an old lady in Greenhills and Erap not lifting a finger.

I guess, among post-marcos era presidents, FVR ranks no.1.

:agree: He gets my vote too. Also the first Protestant President of our country. He may have had his flaws, but then again, name me one President who is flawless? :ssalute: We sure need another person like him or better next time.

After Marcos?

Hmmmm pwede na.

But all in-all i believe the best one we got was PRES. RAMON MAGSAYSAY. :thumb:

MAGSAYSAY IS DEFINITELY A STATESMAN AND A PATRIOT. :thumb: :thumb:

I would say the best we need combines ...

... the statemanship of Magsaysay,

... the salesmanship of Ramos

... and the intelligence of Marcos

... with the right amount of his authoritarianism.

I guess we need a Lee Kuan Yew to put order in our government. The next leader should be respected and have moral suasions para manahimik yung maingay nating kongreso. To be feared is not enough, he has to have moral authority and can lead by example.

Dyan ko naaalala yung late Ninoy Aquino. In my opinion, he was the best president we never had.

:patrioticpinoy:

No appropriate description that was given if what is FVR for me. I'd rather reserve my thoughts.

I was no longer there when he became president I cannot gauge his leadership but if I have to follow what I've read and perceived from the international media, he is bit a lesser evil and nothing significant during his leadership.

During the days when he was my boss in the defunct PC/INP, he got my admiration of his leadership but it just died down when he played silent about the Ninoy Aquino and Galman murder case. If he would come clean and tell all, then, there is no doubt "he is my hero ".

cyklonmetal - November 17, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
AFAIC, the best we've had from Marcos down. He wasnt exactly clean, he reputedly had some "anomalous deals". But the economy was in boom mode when he was in Malacanang. A classmate who once worked as staff for a cabinet member remembers being harried most of the time since he had a penchant for calling cabinet meetings on the fly, early dawn, out of town etc.

one of the best presidents we have....

brassballs - November 18, 2005 12:11 PM (GMT)
I did not voted for FVR but I realized that I should have. Sure he probably manipulated some stuff but which politicians does not, Exploit? yeah maybe but then again it is part of the game you have to use whatever advantages you had at that time to get things done, And he did got things done. The country needs another one like him. Or HIM...!

Mangangalakal - December 3, 2005 07:26 PM (GMT)
One of the best and most lenient president of all besides Cory and Arroyo. Imagine, coup plotters punished by pushup. Tell the detractors to place themselves in his place. What r they gonna do?! A person to emulate! And if ever he passes away, he will die with the secrets inside him just like any Army intelligence offer. We owe Fidel a lot.

Fmr TOPP Awardee 82'PNP - December 4, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
If he die with the black secrets buried with him on his grave, does it make him honorable and deserved to be emulated ? I think concrete these days is too expensive for his monument.

Sir, with due respect to a morally upright soldier like you.Violation of oath of secrecy for any intelligence officer is considered betrayal of trust and a security breach. All those FBIs, CIAs etc have black secrets inside them. They just have to apply the rules. They all got buried in Arlington Cemetery."Hear, see, and say everything but say nothing". Take it as a joke, Sir!! Takot ko lang sa inyo.
