Aircraft aides search for fishermen

MAGSINGAL, Ilocos Sur - The Philippine Coast Guard deployed on Thursday an aircraft to the South China Sea to look for the eight fishermen who were reported missing since Sunday.

Inspector William Sagamayo, chief of police of Magsingal, said that one Highlander plane stationed at Currrimao, Ilocos Norte, arrived Thursday afternoon for the search.

Sagmayo said that there’s no report yet on the missing fishermen believed to have drowned after their boats capsized owing to rough waters.

The missing are Sixto Tabigne, 51; Roger Tabigne, 41; Alex Tabigne, 33; Roderick Duran, 33; Boy Fabro, 55; Lorenzo Tabucol, 20; Reginald Vite, 37; and Hayson Tabucol, 17; all residents of Sitio Puerta Berde, Puro, Magsingal.

The victims left their homes on Sunday between 10 and 11 a.m. to fish in the waters of the China Sea.

They were scheduled to return on the next day, but until Thursday no word was heard about their whereabouts.

The village residents suspect that they had drowned due to strong currents.

Some fishermen attempted to look for them but failed because of the huge waves.

The failed search attempts prompted Barangay Captain Lucia Torricer to report the case to the police and seek help from Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson of Ilocos Sur.

Singson sent his private plane, but the search failed because of bad weather.

Is this a new plane in PCG inventory?

I hope the fishermen are found before Christmas. :armysad:

Weird!

There's no runway in Currimao. It's a small seaport.

Probably, the reporter misquoted the PCG. It should have been the Loaog Intl Airport.

Well it could be a seaplane he he he...

I saw the picture of a Highlander plane already but you could be right still. :armywink:

Those Ilocos fishermen are lucky to have Gov Singson use his prvate plane and maybe even asked the PCG to help in the search

There were 6 fishermen from Subic who was rescued by fellow fishermen after 16 days out in the open sea! I never read or heard anything about the coast guard looking for them??

I believe so. Explains so why the PCG was able to launch a SAR mission from Currimao despite the the lack of airport. The Highlander is seaplane capable after all. :thumb:

I don't really think the PCG owns that plane. Most likely it was the plane that was sent by Chavit Singson to look for the fishermen.

Yeah, or maybe privately owned, with the owners, members of the PCG Auxiliary AOW (Air Operation Wings).
