Title: Suggestion: Chat

Yaberdaber - December 29, 2005 07:36 AM (GMT)
Some of you may be aware that some forums have the chat capability. It would be awesome if we can set up a time and chat together somehow. It can increase exchange of information with a faster rate.

What do you all think?

Wardog - December 29, 2005 09:32 AM (GMT)
The shoutbox below, its similar to Yahoo chat, its real time, not just many is using it.

maldita - July 24, 2006 11:48 AM (GMT)
oo nga naman...sana may chat...may mga lulls ako sa office...it will be relaxing to chat with the members in real time...eh hindi kaya naman mag-kainitan? sa postings nga may mga nagbabanggaan... :rollinlol:

:agree:

Fellows,

I can set up a chatroom for us but I still prefer the original setup wherein the chatbox is placed at the bottom making chatting possible without leaving the main site.

Modgroup,

I can setup an independent window for this chatroom. With this setup, we will be forced to open 2 windows and just hop from one window to another to use both at the same time.

The benefit of this separate window is that the chatroon has more features than the one we used originally. It's even faster, as i noticed.

There's a free chatroom available in the internet but it does not provide the security of authenticated login. It does not require the use of passwords. So anybody can be anybody here.

The authenticated login feature for our chatroom is available for "paid" sites only. This will require us to pay P2000 annually for the use of the said site.

Teka. Maldita might wanna shoulder that cost for PDFF! .. yeheeeeeey!!!!

Fellows,

Check this one;

PDFF Chatroom

Chat is also a good medium of interaction, but to associate it with a forum in my view, would alienate the latter from the norms of exchanging decent ideas as it might be susceptible to abuse and exposure to rudiness because it is a direct and instant one-on-one interaction.

Whereas, in a posted forum, one would exercise restraint before reducing his or her ideas into text, thus, reducing the possibility of an outburst that may lead to unnecessary insults that would only spoil the PDFF.

These are only my views, that should'nt necessarily be construed as a catalyst of opposing the idea.

flipzi - July 25, 2006 10:08 AM (GMT)
I agree. Some who cant be mature and ethical enough may ruin the chatroom.

Nonetheless, it should not restrict us from enjoying interacting with our peers in any way possible.

Chat provides a more lively interaction.

I believe the compromise or the preventive measure applicable here is to have a separate site for the forum so that the main site will not be affected if anything goes wrong with or within the chatroom.

What do you think, Sirs/Ma'am/fellows?

Fmr TOPP Awardee 82'PNP - July 25, 2006 10:14 PM (GMT)
It's bit sound to segregate the chat from the original forum site, but in my humble view, it will still ricochet to the original or main site as it will be the same members who were or will be engaged in the chat. However, there's no harm in giving it a try and see what happen.

flipzi - July 26, 2006 02:17 AM (GMT)
Yes. That's what i am seeing also.

The problem with ill-mannered posters and morons should not stop us from exploring this great medium for interacting with fellow posters.

Ok, maldita. How about you set the dates for our first chatting encounter? :thumb:

maldita - July 26, 2006 11:54 AM (GMT)
how about tuesday 01 august 2006? i'm just thinking about time zones here...some of our members may not be all geographically in las islas de filipinas...excited na ako...i hope it'll be a blast!

Bookmark? ..... arruuuuuyyy....

It is just about adding a link of your frequently visited or favorite sites to your browser window. Your Internet Explorer, that is.

Ok. Open your browser now.

Then go this site; http://www.geocities.com/getflipzi/PDFF_chatroom.html

Now, click on the "FAVORITES" button of your browser's menu bar.

A narrow pane on the left of your browser's window will come up.

Now, just click ADD (located right on top on that small pane)

Then click OK. It's done. You've just successfully BOOKMARKED the weblink.

The purpose of that BOOKMARK is to help you get into that website without typing the long web address in the ADDRESS bar again. Just click the FAVORITES button and select the link on your left pane. Close the left pane when you're already in that site to clear your view.

Getz? :thumb:

oo naman...chatting can sometimes be nonsensical...boring...irrelevant...a waste of time...pero if the chatters are interested in a lot of topics and they are interesting themselves, aba marami talagang magugugol na oras chatting away...i'll be online by 1:00 pm today...see you there!
