its usually uniforms, helmet, rifle, ammo, bayonet pack, for the infantryman plus sidearm for officers though I dunno what pistols Filipino officers carry as I have not been there for sometime now, still the .45 Auto or replaced by 9mm pistols ?

HolyDog - August 25, 2004 12:35 PM (GMT)
Still M1911 :pistols:

But officers who can afford buy the sidearms they like.

Which 1911 brand do they carry? And do they also get issued bodyarmor or only helmets?

Officers receive mostly WWII production 1911 (Remington Rand, Colt, etc). Helmets and body armor (new and old) is not individual issued, they are issued to divisions and division issues it to inidvidual on temporary basis. Except for the marines and LRC, there are no individual infantry man issued helmets in the AFP.

even the marines dont have enough kevlar helmets

Oh!!, I did not know that.

teknogeek - August 27, 2004 01:49 AM (GMT)
there are just not enough kevlar helmets for the marine grunts and these taiwanese made helmets are not good quality either :armyeek:

:rifle: why does the philippine Army have so many kinds of webbing, ammunition pouches?
It seems there is no standard issue!

US PASGT 1 body armor are issued to some marine units[1MBDE] in Jolo.

MBLT6[the anti-terrorist unit of the PMC] are locally made vest with front and back ceramic plate inserts able to resist 7.62mm AP rounds.
This is for CQB or MOUT urban ops.

As usual, when funds are short, the units and troops in the field have to resort to 'sariling sikap' when equipment from GHQ fall short , hence the variety.

An Army officer friend who is lucky enough to have moneyed parents has complete BlackHawk tactical gear from magazine pouches to hydration system paid for by his parents.

The less fortunate manage with what they can scrounge, from hand me downs to the occasional brand new issuances.

Sad, but even the mighty US military is not immune to supply shortages, when Interceptor body armor supply could not keep up with the demand and some US troops in Iraq were left out - the family members back home chipped in to buy armored vests for their soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan.

:gatling:

Tsupa Tsuper - August 29, 2004 09:35 AM (GMT)
The 500 kevlar helmets for the poor fighting Marines that were made to appear to have been purchased from the USA (and therefore US-made, and expensive) but actually came from Taiwan and of very questionable quality. :armytwisted:

And the Marine commandant who approved the transaction retired Lt. Gen. Edgardo Espinosa is now the head of MECO in Taiwan. :armyskeptic:

I'm just curious over what the current standard sidearm issued to Army personnel would be? Thank you.
