NOT LONG AGO, in a remote barrio in Mindanao, four of the military’s toughest “jungle fighters” were handpicked for a special mission -- to “neutralize” a small band of rogue men terrorizing the community.
In about a week, all seven targets mysteriously fell, one after the other. Each had a severe neck, rib or spinal injury. All survived but none of them dared pick on the local folk again.
The mission never hit the headlines -- which was what the soldiers wanted. But it was a resounding success for the team that had quietly trained in an increasingly popular, albeit brutal, sport -- muay thai.
This traditional fighting art form from Thailand, also known as Thai kickboxing, has been steadily replacing karate and judo, the erstwhile close-combat method of choice, in the Philippine military’s elite forces.

the south korean army are taught taekwondo, japanese army judo, eh tayo dapat homegrown martial art din

I agree. :headbang:
On the other hand, baka naman yung nagsulat nanaman ng article ang palpak.

| was a welcome addition to the training of soldiers or jungle fighters belonging to the 2nd ID. |
It was added as a training for soldiers by whom and whose initiative is worth it.

During his 4-year stint at Camp Capinpin, Vallega trained around 900 soldiers. To his knowledge, a number of them had since crept behind enemy lines.
Not to be left behind, the Special Action Force (SAF), the Philippine National Police’s own elite unit, tapped Vallega’s services two years ago. |
Was he there on a voluntary basis or as paid instructor?
If on voluntary basis, that's OK learning other countries techniques. But are there no volunteers to teach our own Martial Arts?

a standard fighting system for the Army should be adapted similar to the Israeli Krav Maga, specializing on one style is not applicable for most military situations.
GKB, I like your sig. :demon:

In my opinion, if it is effective use it. Who cares where it came from. But if a homegrown martial art can be just as effective, they should lookinto that as well.
It's been a long time since I visited here. Kamusta na ba kayo?

Kali is still the style of the AFP:
