Female officer leads anti-NPA drive in Albay-Sorsogon

QUOTE
PILI, Camarines Sur - At Camp Elias Angeles San Jose, Army 1Lt. Lourdes Imperial, 26, of the Army’s 41st Light Armor (Matindi) Company led the rigid combat and antiguerrilla training tactics of the new recruits to the AFP. These young men would bolster the Army’s ability to defeat the communist guerrillas in the Bicol region.

The 41st Light Armor, headed by Capt. Alwin Nobora with Imperial as his tough lady sidekick, are training the rookies in combat operations using the V-150 Infantry fighting armor vehicle.

As vehicle commander, Imperial who graduated from Philippine Military Academy in 2002 showed her expertise in combat operational techniques and tactics over her counterpart in the military’s male-dominant community.

Imperial was the lone lady army official of the Armor Company here that showed its readiness to conduct support operations with its high level vehicles and firepower efficiency and competent armor troopers.

The stiff military training started on March 8 and will end on the second week of August this year. Lt. Col. Jose Matias, commanding officer of the Army’s 9th Division Training Unit told The Manila Times that all-year-round the AFP will train new recruits to reinforce their men.

A couple of months ago, at least 239 candidate soldiers graduated from military training here and as of press time the AFP in Bicol has 500 new recruits undergoing rigid combat and antiguerrilla training at Camp Elias Angeles in San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur nestled at the foot of Mount Isarog.

Communist guerrilla operations these past few months have multiplied and grown deadlier across the region after government declared its all-out-war against the rebels.

"These rookies will be trained for six-month or 19 weeks to master various combat techniques and develop skills to ward off terrorist attacks. After their trainings, we will deploy them in various provinces of Bicol to step up our campaign against communist terrorists specifically that NPA rebels are intensifying both military operations and extortion rackets." Matias said.
