Title: Applying for promotion

ian - July 29, 2006 06:12 AM (GMT)
Hey guys!

Has anyone tried to apply for promotion for their reserve rank? How did you go about it? Are you an active or inactive reservist?

Thanks.

sir ian, what i know is that only active reservists can apply for promotion. Active reservists are those members of the ready reserves while the inactive are those in the standby reserves.
for the Enlisted, ranks up to duty sgt can be administered by their respective RCDGs while sgt and up will be administered in higher command, ARESCOM. Basic requirements are: CAD Order, Enlistment order, latest promotion order, awards if any, of course time in grade and recommendation letter of their respective line commanders.
for Officers, almost the same requirements for commissionship, evaluation reports of their commanders, G2, time in grade, report and appear to the promotion board for interview and the most important one, schooling or career course wether NRI or regular schooling. Maybe sir adroth can add something to this info. :salute:

Not much Capt. Until I get a copy of the IRR for RA 7077 and relevant regulations, all I have are broad strokes.

The only promotion related section in the law can be found in Article IX Sec 56 which states:

SEC. 56. Training as Requisite for Promotion. - Successful completion of training pursuant to Sections 51 and 52 hereof shall be a requisite for promotion in rank in the inactive status.

There is apparently a separate lineal list for reservists

SEC. 57. Classification of Reserve Officers in the Inactive Status. - There shall be only one (1) classification of reserve officers in the inactive status regardless of their source or nature of commission. Likewise, there shall be only one (1) seniority and lineal list for all reservist officers in the inactive status regardless of their source of commission, subject to the rules and regulations to be prescribed by the Secretary of National Defense.

That really isn't saying much. Do you have copies of the regs?

Regarding your definition of Ready and Standby Reserves. Are you saying that a member of the Ready Reserves is always on CAD?

Yes sir, Ready Reserve are covered with CAD orders (Call-to-Active Duty) issued by the CDC commanders from which they are assigned. This CAD orders are distinct from the regular force. Ones issued with this, it does not follow with the compensation entitlement. :armywink:

How do you differentiate a CAD for a reservist who goes active (and actually goes into service), and orders that only require periodic duty?

Have you heard of "Weekend Active Duty" orders?

How do you differentiate between reservists who are standing by for mobilization, and those that are already mobilized.

Somehow your distinction between Standby and Ready Reserves, as well as Active and Inactive . . . deserve further discussion.

How do enlisted reservists get promoted?

saver111 - April 23, 2007 05:52 AM (GMT)
As for EPs, just like for officers, you have to be in the Reserve for a certain number of years.

Have to undergo some re-training

Reservist Trainings

Of course you need to apply for an adjustment in rank and justify it (higher education like Masters, Doctorates, Professional Licenses). But if you're a professional, why settle for an EP rank when you will also undergo re-training? :aberet:
