A(H1N1) sidelines 56 PNPA cadets
07/01/2009 | 08:41 PM

MANILA, Philippines — Even the strong are apparently not immune to the A(H1N1) virus.

In the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) in Silang, Cavite, 56 cadets had to be quarantined after experiencing flu-like symptoms since late last month. Four of them have tested positive for A(H1N1), prompting school officials to carry out measures to prevent the spread of the virus to other students.

Chief Superintendent Danilo Abarsoza, PNPA director, said the students are confined at the PNPA Infirmary, about a kilometer from the Academy. The four infected students were moved to an isolation area and provided with medication prescribed by the Department of Health.

“They are all OK now, they are now recovering but they will remain isolated until the 10-day period prescribed by the DOH for quarantine ends," Abarsoza said by phone.

Other measures, such as disinfection of the academy’s facilities and an information campaign on swine flu, are being carried out to protect the PNPA’s other cadets, faculty and staff, he said.

The Philippines has recorded 1,706 cases of A(H1N1) infection, including one death. - GMANews.TV
