This series just gets better with every season :thumb:

Is it available on cable in RP, or do you get "liberated" copies?

Uum...

These youtube clips were recorded by someone obviously in the US who was watching the Sci-Fi Channel (it's called the Space Channel in Canada)

Negative. Our company has an office there, and one my buddies from Taiwan who got reassigned there came to the US last week. Got the low down about the place.

Re Mandarin. I'm slowly losing what little I know. However, I do get a chance to go to Taiwan every 4 months, so still get some practice.

My pinyin is as lousy as ever. :drunk:

Mandarin characters tutorial colored book is a big help. I want to master them. Hundreds of characters. Enroll myself in Mandarin school this spring. I am Chinoy. So I have to be proud of my roots.

I wish I get the chance to meet Isabelle Chang, the Taiwanses spymaster and interview her (not play footsies with her. My masters will throw me from a twenty story balconey if I do that). See how lovely she is. Look at the way she posed at the picture. It's like hitting the lottery, man.

Epigone,

Interesting. You're Chinoy. I suppose you speak Fukienese/Fujian Hua/Hokien or Cantonese/Guang Dong Hua with your family at home? Just curious.

Xian Nian Kuai Le! (Chinese New Year is drawing close too, I suppose).

My father is Chinese. My mother is full-blooded Filipina Malay. My grandpa speaks Chinese. But we were not reared speaking Mandarin or Cantonese. My sisters are all slit eyed. Only me got my looks from Malay mother.

BTW, I think you and adroth will be good drinking buddies to paint the town red with. We can visit adroth in the Philippines someday, establish contact and drink and talk about good times in this forum. How about that?

I am no longer in Vancouver. Established residence here in Birmingham with friends and relatives.

Now I got the whole idea. Realistic movie. I thought it's like Star Wars which looks incredible. Lovely lady with finely chiseled nose. Got attracted to her at first glance.
Fictional stories are good investments to spend time on. If only we have talented story tellers in the Philippines to do in-depth dramas, plays and novels, they might be of good use to propagandize the AFP campaign against insurgency. :btt:

Can't afford, p're. But I'll see if I can watch at brother's house on scheduled dates.
Action movies are enticing. I'll be hooked to it if I can afford. My only channels are CNN and CBC plus about 4 more channels. Sorry to be a jerk. But if it's available in DVD, man, I'll horde them all just like my favourites, 24, MI5, and Nikita.

To Adroth or any other BSG fans,

When Major Apollo came to Admiral Adama's rescue during the evacuation of New Caprica, he had to sacrifice the Battlestar Pegasus in order to save the Battlestar Galactica from being destroyed by the Cylon Fleet. (Epigone, if you don't know what we're talking about, please look up the links on the first post of this thread)

In my opinion, it was a total waste. Besides it says in Wikipedia that Pegasus has facilities on board her which can allow her to manafacture more squadrons of Vipers to replace their losses.

Also, the Pegasus was a newer warship than the Galactica; the Galactica was older and had fought in the First Cylon War. But I hear that the Pegasus was sacrificed more as a plot element since the show's name focuses on the Galactica after all.

Still, I think that Apollo could have used another tactic that would have saved BOTH battlestars.

Oh well...

:headbang:

adroth - January 17, 2007 07:25 PM (GMT)
Looks like we just spoiled it for some folks :drunk:

Yup, the Mercury class Pegasus was newer and had fighter manufacturing facilities. Remember the episode with Scar, where the fleet had to stay in one place to mine raw materials for fighter production?

It would not be unreasonable to assume that some of those facilities could have been transferred to civilian ships before that one-way mission. (Ey . . . gotta have a little faith in the producers :drunk:)

IMHO, the "disposal" of the Pegasus was logical for the following reasons:

- Fidelity to the original story. In the original Galactica series, the Battlestar Pegasus was introduced in a two-part special, and then lost in a very lame way in a battle with three base stars. Lame beyond belief. At least the way that the Pegasus was lost this time was AWESOME

- Suspension of disbelief. If they sent the Pegasus for the rescue, it would have been pretty obvious to the audience that it would be lost. This way, there was still at least some suspense.

- It also made sense to have the Pegasus protect the civilian fleet, while the Galactica went for its suicide mission. If you want to protect what's left of humanity, you'd want your top weapon in charge of that.

- The Pegasus went in with a skeleton crew, for ease of evacuation (remember it only took four Raptors to evacuate the crew). Getting people off the Galactica would have been . . . difficult.

Oh well . . . excuses . . . excuses. I was saddened by its loss as well.

Where are you? In the Philippines or the US or Europe?

If you're in the Philippines, the Cinemax Channel on Skycable ran special marathons on the first and second seasons last year.

If you're in the United States, you can watch it on the SciFi Channel (Channel 61 via Cox cable in Southern California- not sure about the cable in other states/regions)

I'm not sure which channels in Europe you can watch it on. BSG has an official fan site you can look up, I assume.

BTW,

ADROTH, after watching the premiere episode of this new season, I think STARBUCK IS A CYLON! (She's been drawing the eye of Jupiter since childhood- watch the episode to find out how).

Yup watched it. Made sure to avoid this thread before then . . . didn't want to see any spoilers. :armywink:

I can definitely see the merits of your argument.

But then again, people having visions is a recurring ocurrence in BSG. The President . .. the oracle . . .

Also, why would the Cylons have such interest in her ovaries if she were a Cylon?

Here's a thought. What if the real StarBuck never made it out of Caprica in the 2nd season, and was actually replaced by a cylon clone.

:drunk:

ADROTH and other BSG fans here,

NOTHING FRAKKING BLEW UP in last night's episode!!!!! All this relationship crap between Starbuck and Apollo with them cheating on their spouses is beginning to sound like an episode of the OC!!!! Well, at least it was not a total loss, since Admiral Adama had his way :demon: when he interrogated ex-Colonial President Baltar for the Baltar's supposed role in colluding with the Cylons.

Still, as they say in the Canadian Army forum, it's becoming more like BATTLESOAP GALACTICA instead of Battlestar Galactica!!!!

http://forums.army.ca/forums/index.php?top...1;topicseen#new

adroth - January 29, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
Its the middle of the season, so its chracter development time. :thumb: (Read: "we don't have enough cash in the budget for more special effects shots" -- happened with StarTrek a lot)

Even with the previous seasons, the really fun bits were at the start of the season; in the cliff-hanger endings at the half-season mark (Season 1: the attack on the refuelling asteroid; Season 2: discovery of the Pegasus); and then the final episode of the season.

Since they moved it to Sunday night, they have to compete with the usual Sunday-night-fare, which are often aimed at women. Good thing my digital recorder has two digital tuners, so it can record BSG for me, and "Brothers & Sisters" for my better half.

Hehehe . . Battlesoap Galactica . . . that's got an interesting ring to it.

Anyone here have guesses on who the FINAL FIVE CYLON models' faces will be?

I'm guessing one of them may be Lt.Dualla/Dee or Helo or Starbuck.

Apparently someone at the Canadian Army forum has a pic of the Final 5 photographed from a trailer production shoot.

NICE

Given the importance of The Five, I wouldn't be surprised if these stand ins don't become representative of the actual five when they are finally revealed. After all, in the actual show, these details were never shown.

The script writers are probably still trying to figure this one out.

Last night's episode- Sunday, Feb.12-

The disease, Galactica and Captain Helo- BORRRING!!!!

Although it showed the integrity of Captain Helo in spite that racist doctor who killed Saggitarons, there was NOT MUCH ACTION!!!!

Ok . . . at least in last night's episode . . . the blew up an airlock

MSantor - March 5, 2007 04:02 AM (GMT)
Damn! Just saw the episode tonight- I can't believe they killed Starbuck off before they reached Earth!

If she's not one of the Final Five, then I'm sorry the writers made meet her fate exploding in a Viper in some Gas Giant Planet.

She really stood among the other characters...but somehow I feel this isn't the last we've seen of her.

As for Adama mourning over Starbuck, HE DIDN'T HAVE TO TAKE IT OUT ON HIS POOR MODEL SHIP!!!! hehehe...oh well.... :armyeek:

adroth - March 5, 2007 04:20 PM (GMT)
I have a sinking feeling that your original conjecture about Starbuck being a toaster could be true.

MSantor - March 12, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
Great...a terrorist bomb blows up on a Raptor, then we have more of this character buildling with Apollo arguing with Dad as usual...oh well...YAWNNNNNNN......

Why they don't have a Kangaroo court and chuck Baltar OUT the airlock to get it over with! SHEESH!

At least the preview for the upcoming season finale looks interesting so far.

MSantor - March 19, 2007 05:04 AM (GMT)
Another update...FINALLY some action (more like just a drop or a taste of it)...a Cylon Missile almost hits a Raptor...oh well...

Anyways, it's an interesting plot twist that the President has Cancer again and visions again...

though I don't see the point of conflict the new Apollo versus Admiral Adama again with "the son sticking it to his Dad" as Baltar's lawyer aptly put it...

Then they gotta have Colonel Tigh have hallucinations and HEARING THINGS from Galactica's hull?? SHEESH, I wish the screenwriters would just give the man a BREAK!!!!

MSantor - March 25, 2007 06:02 AM (GMT)
Here's a little link to cure our weekly BSG fix before the season finale tomorrow:
(you'll only get the joke if you're familiar with the regular BSG opening/intro part they have each episode)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oz0Gb2wgHU

BTW,

If you're recording the episode, it's stated on other forums that the season finale will last 5 minutes longer, regardless of whether you're watching the SciFi Channel in the States or the Space Channel in Canada.

SCI FI Channel has increased its episode order for the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica to 22 from the original 13, including a special two-hour extended episode that will air during the fourth quarter of this year and be released on DVD by Universal Studios Home Entertainment thereafter. SCI FI made the announcement at its upfront press event in New York on March 21.

Battlestar Galactica will air its season-three finale on March 25 in its regular Sunday 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. Production will begin on the new season in May, with an eye to an early 2008 premiere.

The series is from NBC Universal Television Studio and is executive-produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick

It is also revealed on Wikipedia's episode guide on BSG who the FINAL FIVE Cylon Models are... :armyeek:
