SHARPSHOOTER Capt. Wilfredo “Ed” Martin, instructor of the Philippine Army’s Marksmanship Training Unit, flashed his old form, to win four titles and capture the Top Gun crown in the rapid fire pistol .45-cal. event of the CGPA Cup 2007 invitational shooting competition at the HPA firing range inside Fort Bonifacio.

The 33-year-old Martin, a Philippine Military Academy graduate of Class ’97, is back to his favorite sport—speed shooting.

Slowly but surely, he is claiming back his old, top form, and this made him the best individual shooter in the top 16 Aggregate as he asserted supremacy against a field of luminaries, including internationalist Jeufro Lejano, who settled for second place; Israelito Pible (third), Eric Cordero (fourth), Benjie Belarmino Jr. (fifth) and Alvin de Luna (sixth).

Army Chief Romeo Tolentino added another feather to his glittering record by winning the Standard Division of the Star Rank Class by outshooting Maj. Gen. Jovenal Narcise.

In the battle for the top 6 overall of the Standard Division, Martin came out champion by beating the tough challenge of Col. Rainier Cruz; Eugene Bensal (third), Col. Gochin Zaragoza (fourth), Sgt. Mark Marzan (fifth) and Florante Somera (sixth).

Martin, who is assigned at Tradoc—the home of the 7th Infantry Battalion in Fort President Ramon Magsaysay in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija—also came out champion in the PNP/AFP/Lawman-Standard Class and the Company Grade, his fourth championship trophy before he received the most coveted award, the huge Perpetual Trophy, from Tolentino himself.

Other winners were Rico Papa (Modified), Jerome Morales (Open), Manny Cruz (Revolver), Estella Quinico (Lady Standard), Andrea Gasic (Lady Production) and Grace Tan (Lady Open).
