Title: What is an army escort vehicle?
Description: as defined by the PA

I asked this question in light of the controversy surrounding the development of the MX8 prototype which is questioned by kropek.

is it a soft-skin 4x4 armed with a light mg, an armored 4x4 armed with heavy mg, or a mine-resistant 4x4 or 6x6 with 20mm above cannon?

my idea of an acceptable escort vehicle for the PA is the Textron ASV or lower-cost, locally produced clone.

If i was chosen to chose an important-made vehicle, i'd probably chose the Panhard VBL or Otokar Cobra.

My idea of an ideal AEV for the PA - VBL Panhard:

and I think Steelcraft studied this vehicle during the design phase of the MX8 Barako. :armywink:

Hmm.

While there may have once been "a" set of specs for an AEV
it may not be clear that it should apply to the MX-8.
AFAICT the development process has been rather informal,
an artefact of "fast-tracking", and so the original specs
might no longer hold.

Feedback between PA and Steelcraft at every stage could have
changed any initial spec. Kapaan baga...

In short the PA's definition of an AEV may be evolving as it
sees the MX-8 prototype evolve and test out. Such a situation
can and does lead to bloat, pricewise, but so long as relevant value
is being added, it doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Steelcraft,

This frame design is better for the AEV since the back has more room for the passengers.
