Title: 10th Infantry (Agila) Division
Description: anything about the AGILA TROOPERS

A GOOD shepherd does his best to keep his flock from getting into trouble. He uses a rod to protect his flock from attackers, also uses it to approach discipline as a teaching opportunity and regularly check their progress. This is how the person in command at the 10th Infantry Division does his job.

His white hair distinguishes him. An acquaintance with him will leave an impressive memory of a brilliant person to associate with. He has a soft-spoken voice but is very tough inside and always emphasizes every message he conveys.

With less than a year left before retiring from military service, Major General Ernesto Disu Boac has no other dream in his military career but to leave a legacy uniquely his own. Boac is the first commander to lead the newly-created 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based here in Camp Panacan, Davao City and he wants his stint to be considered fruitful and heart warming.

The 10th ID was activated in August last year with a mission: to neutralize the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) of the New People's Army, considered by the Armed Forces of the Philippines to be the most active NPA group in the entire country. This is in line with the order of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to eradicate the communist movement by year 2010.

The challenge of building a new unit primarily rests on its leadership. Boac, in his assumption speech as Commanding General, stresses the importance of its vision "to provide the ultimate sense of purpose, direction and motivation for all members of the unit." He, likewise, outlines his intentions of building suitable climate and culture for the organization.

"We are only a few months old yet we are already gaining ground in our insurgency campaign," Boac said, citing the recovery of hundreds of firearms, the surrender and death of several rebels and overrunning of rebel camps.

He is a veteran in the fight against insurgency, having been assigned for so many years in the areas of Agusan del Sur as a platoon, company, battalion and then brigade commander. In fact, he has been assigned here in Mindanao for 16 years and most of those years were in the field to combat the problem of insurgency.

His strategy to solve insurgency is, not solely relying on combat or military operations but also community visitation, education and project implementation to areas believed as strongholds of the rebel movement.

Leadership Style

He is a great leader who has a big heart for his men. His ultimate concern is the quality of life his men has and addresses every concern fairly. He believes that by giving loyalty and trust to his people and having a sincere heart for them is an investment. In return, his people will view that investment with a heartfelt following. The quality of return is based on the quality of investment.

His awards

The leadership of Major General Boac earned him the Best Battalion Commander of the Year in 1994 when he was assigned with the 68th IB under the 7th ID based in Pangasinan province. Just recently, AFP Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon cited the 10th ID as one of the best Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

He is also a recipient of various awards, including the five Distinguished Service Stars, Outstanding Honor Graduate in both the Infantry Officer Advance Course and Command and General Staff Course, and the prestigious Cavalier Award given by the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association in 2000.

His passion

He loves gardening. As a matter of fact, he supervises the landscaping of the newly built 10th ID offices and quarters. Just like a real shepherd, he appreciates nature. That’s why in his free time, he plays golf to unwind and commune with the beauty of nature. But little did everyone know that he is a music lover. He is recently compiling all sorts of music from jazz, instrumental, pop to techno, etc. which he downloads from his personal laptop. He therefore thought that the next logical thing he will do after retiring from the Military service is to use his knowledge to teach people how to appreciate good music.

His legacy

Being the first commander of the 10th Infantry Division, he leaves behind a climate and a culture which encourages the men and women of the AFP. The spirit of teamwork will always be cherished. Understandably, he will have a touch of melancholic feeling once he leaves the service, after all his association as a serviceman had come from every region of the world, every strata of society, yet a strong bond had grown between them. He has been blessed with many accolades more than any officer ought to have but none of them mean more than the sincere loyalty and commitment of the people who have worked with him, who taught him how to lead in a manner that made them want to follow.

The Man

Boac graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1975. Born on February 15, 1952, he hails from Camp Allen, Baguio City. He is a son of a Master Sergeant who saw and was wounded in action during World War II.

He has five other siblings but he was the only one who pursued a military career as three of them are nurses while the two are engineers. He spent his elementary and high school education in Baguio City.

Aside from taking basic military course, he also finished the Professional Manager’s Program at the Ateneo de Manila Graduate School of Business and holds a Masters Degree of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania , U.S.A.

He is blessed with two daughters, Armie, 27 years old and Diane, 24 years old. Both finished BS Psychology.

Great leadership is hard work, it's unrelenting. It comes with a price that few are willing to pay. His time, his commitment, his personal energy and involvement is the cost he has given to become a worthy shepherd to his flock. He personally modeled it for them, thus a debt of gratitude began to well up. If you can stand up for your people, they’ll stand up for you. When his men feel attacked, they know they have someone they can depend on. He is a man looked up to and respected. As implausible as it may sound, Gen. Boac is a good shepherd to the 10th Infantry Division.

10th 'Agila' Infantry Division was activated in August 2006 from two brigades (404th of 4th 'Diamond' ID and 601st of 6th 'Kampilan' ID). It's based in Camp Panacan, Davao City. AOR are the Davao provinces, ComVal, Saranggani. The two component brigades became 1001st 'Pagasa' Inf Bde and 1002nd.

http://timawa.net/forum/index.php/topic,4693.0.html

'Agila' is the most obvious moniker of the youngest PA Inf Div since the Philippine Eagle's home is the Mt. Apo, which overlooks the Davao provinces.

a big t(h)anks for all the comments on my avatar. done it with photoshop. anyways, here some info(s) about the Agila Division.

The 10th Infantry (AGILA) Division was activated on 16 August 2006 based on General Orders # 335 HPA dated 09 August 2006 issued by Headquarters, Philippine Army in compliance with the guidance of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as Commander-In-Chief. The four-fold purposes of activating the division in Eastern and Southern portions of Mindanao will focus on Internal Security Operation (ISO) against confronted threats, dismantling priority guerilla fronts and enhanced administrations, supervisions and supports of units confronting priority threats.

The activation of 10th Infantry (AGILA) Division was followed by the reassignment of units from adjacent Army Divisions. From the 4th Infantry Division, the 404th Infantry Brigade was renamed 1001st Infantry Brigade and 28th, 60th, 67th 72nd (CAFGU), 73rd Infantry Battalions and Task Force Davao was absorbed. Also from the 6th Infantry Division, the 601st was renamed 1002nd Infantry Brigade and 25th, 27th 39th, 66th Infantry Battalions, and Task Force GenSan (General Santos) were included and other combat support units.
The activation ceremony was formally launched on 17 August 2006 at Camp Panacan, Davao City.

iamsinned06 - December 26, 2007 05:35 PM (GMT)
The 10th Infantry (AGILA) Division adopted the Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jeffreyi) as its unit symbol considering its aggressive attitude and to help promote the National Bird. Beforehand, a search for a fitting picture of the rarest, largest and most powerful bird in the world led to the photographic pose of “Mindanao“, the eagle, in an alert and focused stance.

This bird of prey or raptor was hatched on 10 December 2001 at the Philippines Eagle Center in Malagos, Baguio District,Davao City. Initially named Kajag after the genitor pair Ka Brianne (female) and jag (male), and was later renamed Mindanao with its adoption by the One Network Bank. This day, the eagle remains under the care of the Center.

The symbolic unique head photographic shot (the image below) of the Philippine Eagle was captured by Rhonson Ng on 16 April 2004. Ng eventually transferred the exclusive rights in perpetually including the copyright of the photo to the 10th Infantry (AGILA) Division on 15 November 2006.

More troops added to Army's 10th Division

MORE troops are added to the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division as their internal security operations keep on in their area of responsibility.

Army's 10th ID chief Major General Ernesto Boac formally received on Friday "150 young bloods to compose the Philippine Army Candidate Soldier Course Class 170-2007."

Seventy percent of the qualified applicants were recruited within the 10th ID area of responsibility while 30 percent came from other parts of Mindanao area.

As to their educational profile, 15.33 percent are college graduates, 34 percent are college level (with 72 units earned), 6 percent are graduates of vocational courses and 44.67 percent are high school graduates with technical expertise highly regarded in the military service.

Five of the recruits are lumads who underwent the same strict selection process.

The candidate soldiers underwent the traditional military reception, which includes military dozen exercises such as squat thrust, push-ups, jumping jack and other modified exercises to initially test their physical stability.

Boac administered the oath of allegiance to the newly recruit soldiers. He challenged the recruits to prove their worth and to aggressively pursue their dreams and never lose sight of success.

"Rest if you must but don't you quit," Boac said.

After the reception, the applicants were immediately hauled for in-trucking to 10th Division Training Unit based in Malagos for their training which will be handled by the training committee headed by Major Efren Morados who is also designated as officer-in-charge of the said training unit. CAFGU Battalion challenges and innovations

The 72nd IB (CAFGU) is now confronting many challenges in the performance of its mission in view of its wide area of coverage. The perennial problems in CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) administration, among others, delay of subsistence allowance and untrained cadres reduced the effectiveness of CAFGUs as force multipliers in ISO. This is further aggravated by the CT harassments of CAA detachments and the lost of sizeable number of assorted firearms.

With the designation of LTC JOSHUA R SANTIAGO INF (GSC) PA, as the Battalion Commander, he immediately instituted measures to improve the CAA administration by enhancing the data base of CAAs. It aims to improve accounting and prevent the existence of “ghost CAAs”. The patrol bases are also continuously strengthened and fortified to withstand and repel enemy attack.

Lessons learned that most of the scenarios the led to the disarming of patrol bases were attributed to the deception made by the CTs of wearing military uniforms and introducing as soldiers. The communist terrorists (CTs) even use cadres or CAAs as hostage to force other CAAs in the patrol base to surrender their firearms as what had happened in CAA detachments in Brgy Bintuin, Tulunan, North Cotabato and Brgy Canidkid, Montevista, COMVAL Province.

10th ID marks 3rd anniversary

THE 10th Infantry Division (Agila) commemorated its third founding anniversary at Camp Panacan on Monday.

The commemoration dubbed "Team Agila: Working with all the stakeholders for peace" emphasized the command's pursuance of peace, security, and development within their area of responsibility.

"We thank the people of Region 11 (Southern Mindanao) and the Socsksargen Region for providing a second home to our soldiers," Division Commander Major General Reynaldo B. Mapagu said in thanking all those who have supported them for the past three years.

"The people's support and trust serve as our principal anchor and inspiration as we continue to serve this country with the highest level of dignity and loyalty," Mapagu said.

Mapagu thanked his soldiers to renew their commitment to defend the people and protect the communities from all threats.

"I ask my fellow soldiers to serve the same sense of urgency in their missions, to continue respecting and defending the rights of the people, and upholding the rule of law, and to continue dreaming of peace," Mapagu said.

A Eucharistic mass was celebrated by the officers and men in thanksgiving. A blessing for the newly repaired and constructed buildings and newly acquired building followed.

An awarding ceremony was also held. Soldiers who exemplified leadership were recognized and plaques of recognition were given to maneuver units, combat service support units, and non-government and private organizations who contributed to the 10th ID.

The 10th ID will also commemorate the outcome of the activities, such as sports tournaments and blood donation drive they had with other law-enforcement agencies, tri-media, businessmen, and civilian friends.

A photo and static exhibit will be launched on August 18-20 at the SM Mall and Matina Town Square to form part of 24th Kadayawan Festival. (JCZ)

Maj. Gen. Leo Joggy Fojas used to be the Division Commander of the 10th ID, he just retried as the commander of the NCR Command. Early this year he issued a press statement that they already know who the terrorist are, where they are and they are MONITORING them.

What do you do if you identified the terorrists? Would you just monitor them?
