Title: 5MBLT Long Range Recon Patrol

Report by war correspondent Ed Lingao while embedded with the 5th Marine Battallion, Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol.

No armed unit was authorized to enter this area and so when armed men were spotted, they were suspected to be members of the Abu Sayaff. They tried to surround the suspects but were spotted in the process and so a firefight ensued.

One suspect was killed, 2 more escaped. They were later found in a hospital and claimed they are members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) which are civilian volunteers fighting for the government.

oooops friendly fire!

I think I have watched that segment. The suspects were cooking breakfast when they were pounced upon. Verification was made and confirmed no friendlies were supposedly to be in the area. Remember these were CAFGUs unless there were regulars supervising them.

Just don't know if those troops were too eager to make a score having a reporter covering the incident. I was hoping for a follow-up report on the incident but nothing came up. :dunno:

blue on blue incidents can never be eliminated, it will always be a part of war.

After that incident, Ed Lingao suddenly appeared in another network.

The PMC must not fall for the tricks of the Abu Sayyaf,
who pretend to be CAFGU's.
All non-AFP personnel who are armed must be
arrested by the Philippine troops in Mindanao.

So the PNP, NBI, PCG, other law enforcement agents including private security guards and legitimate owners of firearms will be arrested?
