its not THAT expensive - equivalent t0 P1.3 million per missile for standard MILAN and around P1.7 million for the extended range variant. The AFP could very well afford a dozen or two.

Tormentor - March 17, 2008 02:18 AM (GMT)
The antitank missiles that are 'rumored' to be in the arsenal of the PSG are intended for 'rebel tanks' in case of a coup.

I've seen a M72 being carried by one of the PSG guys when Ramos was a guest at RPN9. It's his first year as president.

Lorenz_Mallari - March 25, 2008 07:43 AM (GMT)
I guess AFP still has 40mm recoilless rifle in its arsenal

Well, it's not a laughing matter you know, our country today has been sorrounded with unsecured waters for embarking & disembarking of this tanks, Subic is not a place to land it, because it will compromised the flow: they gonna look for other place to land without being notice by the "enemy"(our AFP)

It is imposible the communist terrrorist will accquire such tanks, Only the MILF will do, because they were organised and trained as what our army had. they had a place to mobilised (the only problem for these tanks is fuel support)

The tanks must be amphibious, because our country has many Islands: this is the tank:

I don't think that the MILF of today would acquire armoured assests, basically because they are an irregular force.

The logistical requirements of armoured vehicles is large, and the milf would not have the capability to sustain this. Even our own army just has a single light armor brigade.

But of course I would want the MILF to spend their money on getting armoured vehicles. these cost a lot, and are easier for our troopers to kill. so their losses would be greater, and they would have less money for their irregular troops which are harder to kill.

For light armor, the vietnam-era LAW or even the barrett with armor piercing rounds would suffice.

We have these in our inventory.

against armor, in jungle terrain, then I have to quote the US marines -

"hunting tanks is fun and easy" :armyLol:

realistically speaking, MILF or the MNLF will be at most be able to field light armor or up-armored light trucks.

these can be defeated by the following weapons in our inventory -

the LAW - light antitank weapon
the ancient recoilless rifles
the Barret with anti materiel armor piercing rounds
the 40mm automatic grenade launcher

medyo OT pero given the military's budget, and after taking away the tong-pats, I'd be happier if they spent money instead for personal armor, new M4s, maybe even personal role radios.

it ain't... why, think of the logistics for just acquiring a tank (even if this is a light tank or an amphibious tank)... these tanks can be defeated by simple RPGs... its not a very wise purchase for these MILFs, because remember that they had destroyed one of the marines V-300 back then in mindanao (basilan I think several years ago, killing a junior officer and a couple of marines) with an RPG round... think also for the fuel that the tank will use (guzzle), it is MOST wise to use pick-up trucks with a dozen heavily armed rebels with RPGs to kill several armored vehicles/ tanks (flexibility is the name of the game for rebels like them - strike and scoot)... that's part of a military strategy...

it is not an "if" sir adrain, that is reality, because "if" they do have tanks/ armored vehicles, they will probably have too many problems in logistics alone...

that sir is a fact...
