Coast Guard spokesman Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said these sites include Boracay, Puerto Galera and Palawan, which he said are among the traditional popular tourist destinations during the Holy Week. "Utos sa amin pagibayuhin ang mga security measure dito (Coast Guard commandant Vice Admiral Danilo Abinoja's order was for us to increase security in these areas)," Balilo said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said the security personnel in these areas will be "converted" to quick reaction teams once the summer peak season is over. Balilo reiterated the Coast Guard's appeal to passengers to be wary of the ships they will take when going to their destinations. He said passengers should not ride vessels without life jackets or radios. Meanwhile, the Metro Manila police has deployed Regional Special Action Unit (RSAU) personnel to keep watch over the Light Rail Transit and Metro Rail Transit lines during the Holy Week. The LRT and MRT lines will close Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday for maintenance work. The RSAU members will also keep watch over areas near churches. - GMANews.TV |
