Title: NSOG / SWAG / NAVSOG
Description: Sea, Air and Land SOG
Seventeener - July 21, 2004 10:31 AM (GMT)
is the SWAG of the Philippine Navy the equivalent of the SEALs of US Navy or we have our SEAL team?
Shybird - July 22, 2004 10:11 AM (GMT)
am nt exactly sure but we have SWAG men and we have also separate SeAL unit in the Phil Navy
hoyhoyhoy - July 23, 2004 06:01 AM (GMT)
don tell me we hav also seals like the usnavy :D we canot equal those guys better we stop dreaming about being like americans
Half Pint - July 29, 2004 05:10 PM (GMT)
our SWAG is sometimes called SEALs, since they wear the same trident as what the American SEALs wear (Budweiser). SWAG are the guys who wear Tiger-striped BDUs, which they themselves "designed" (SWAG Tiger Stripes). i'm quite sure you know na sila yung nasa Oakwook last year. VERY tough dudes!
Erik Jay Teves - July 31, 2004 05:24 AM (GMT)
The Special Warfare Group or the SWAG of the Philippine Navy is our equivalent of the US Navy's Seal Teams, FYI. These dudes are legendary in their own right, similar to that of our SR's and SF's! I think they were the unit who encountered Abu Sabaya and his followers. the eventually killed him in a speed boat gunbattle chase in the dark waters of mindanao with no casualty from the side of the SWAG. They also crosstrain with the US Navy Seals and other ally country navy commandos. Yes,they were the guys in oakwood and they are the unit that wears the distictive tiger fatigue.

Did participating in the Oakwood mutiny count as additional "toughness" points? ;)
wingblast - August 13, 2004 08:15 AM (GMT)
SWAG personnel have done their share in defending the country's freedoms, its rather sad that the actions of a few misguided individuals would forever taint the sacrifice and dedication of most of the SWAG.

BTW,
pasingit.
their physique and weaponry, as i have observed long before, are really appropriate not just for close range combat shooting but for hand-to hand combat as well.
pang counter-tero talaga! :thumb: :thumb:
i wonder, what martial arts training these guys had?

Why not, it is the technique not the physique.

to an extent yes, you're right.
nonetheless, it still does not solve the concern when you'll need to use your bear hands to do the job.

it's still your advantage if you know that.
whether you're hitting him far or close, you know that you are FULLY ARMED AND PREPARED.

What if you're SAW jammed or you ran out of bullets and you are just a stab away from your opponent?

dude if your opponent is a stab away and you are were carrying a SAW and you ran out of bulletss ( could not hit targett) then GOd help you. TO Answer your question, Drop SAW, go to secondary weapon.

If you stationary then you are going to get stabbed ( move buddy , move). ANd who in his right mind would go against a SAW weilding guy with only a knife??You can also whacked him with your SAW.

I supposed that SWAG are normally fielded for CQB, rescue and anti-tero manuevers.
If you are boarding a ship, you are faced with surprises. The unfamiliar environment has a lot of traps laid out. Would you believe a Para SAW-wielding trooper can be neutralized with kitchen knife? But not by me, hehehe.
Let's say, a former SF trooper turned pirate who's also a Kali expert for example.
Typical infantry dont need martial arts training but it would be best if they are given such.
Even SR don't carry knives when they go out on a mission. Almost all encounters are governed by bullets.
Nonetheless, did you know how Lt. Col. Buan defeated his enemy during that encounter that killed Sali?
That's one example.

IPSC that made me laugh.
But seriously, matt damon is using a sexy rifle, a D&L bolt action, the only problem is that its a single load rifle, bad choice for an operator or one hell of a confident ass.

From the way they are laughing and smiling, I bet it's just an exercise.
IPSCrules - October 23, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
Don;t think they are going to carry SAW when boarding a ship. They would probably carry MP-5s or suppressed M-4s. FYI, surefire has a new suppressor, pretty neat, you have to modify your barrel but you can use it your birdcage flash hider.
Numbers - October 23, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
Thats an assault boat they're riding alright.
flipzi - October 23, 2004 02:45 AM (GMT)
even if you carry those MP5 and other assault rifles and machine pistols, that "jammed mechanism or out of ammo while just a stab away" applies too.
ever wonder the Navy seals are martial arts experts?
ever wonder why the PMA offers, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Boxing, etc.?
NSWAG were patterned after the SEALS, don't you remember?
typical infantry don't need martial arts training, though it would benefit them also in cases when unlucky situation confronts them in the battlefild.
the special operations troop's capability must not end when their ammos are all spent. :exactly:

USN SEAL operators are excellent knife fighters. So as the PMC Recon Marines. SWAG, probably.

It would be safe to say that the PMC Force Recon operators are among the best, if not the best, knife fighters among the world's specwarries. Even the USN SEALs and USMC FR are incorporating the PMC FR's kali eskrima knife and stick fighting techniques into their own training doctrines.
