Soldier kills 2, wounds 2 in shooting spree

MANILA, Philippines -- An Army sergeant went on a shooting spree inside the Philippine Army headquarters in Makati City, killing two and wounding two others.

A radio report said Sgt. Elias Tial, assigned at Fort Bonifacio, opened fire at his fellow soldiers around 10 p.m. Wednesday using an M-16 assault rifle.

Killed were soldiers with ranks of a master sergeant and 1st Lt., while those wounded were both Army captains. They were brought to a nearby hospital after the shooting.

Tial, who escaped after the incident, was reportedly enraged by his superiors for not allowing him to take a leave of absence to attend the wake of a relative in Negros Occidental, reports said.

Authorities are now tracking down the disgruntled soldier.

the afp really has to provide more support to personnel especially those who were involved in severe combat and suffering from ptsd.
