It's a business engterprise. There are laws governing management of Hacienda Luisita. If there is blatant violation, law enforcement would surely appear and go knock on their gates given that some people hate them. Huwag tayong maghusga dahil si Cory at ang mga Aquino at Cojuancos kahit minsan hindi tayo hinusgahan.

MANILA, Philippines — Pampanga Gov. Eddie Panlilio Thursday raised the possibility he would drop his presidential plan and instead rally behind Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III should he run for president.

“I’m thinking of not running. That’s a big probability. I want to support Noynoy because with so many [candidates for president] from the reform movements, it would do our country more good if there is just one reform candidate. This would be Noynoy,” Panlilio told the Inquirer.

The only son of slain opposition leader Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and the late former President Corazon Aquino can also unite the political opposition, according to Panlilio, a Catholic priest.

In supporting unification efforts, the governor said he was being consistent with his earlier position that rallying behind a single candidate could increase that person’s chances of winning and put the reform agenda high in government.

Panlilio said he would make his final decision after another round of consultations with Aquino, his colleagues in the good governance and ethical movement Kaya Natin! and supporters in Pampanga and other parts of the country.

When I was in PUP Sta.Mesa, some people were asking for support on Cory Aquino's 1 Million signature and I signed my name on it to give Tita Cory a chance to run for Presidency. But deep inside of me, its a mission impossible to go against Marcos at that time. Then there is a Twist of FATE coz majority of Filipinos wants change and History did happen in EDSA.

Now to continue Cory's Legacy for Democracy, I will once again give my Utmost Signature support for Noynoy for the Highest Office and this time there will be no more doubts.

The Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army takes advantage of casting Noynoy on the sidelines when supporters' invocation of 'full blown democracy' puts them either in disarray or in bad light but invokes Ninoy's name when slandering the Marcoses. Eating the cake and having it too. Noynoy is not a supporter of CPP-NPA. The only reason he is evasive of criticizing them is that he might win their hearts and minds. But the Left took this to their advantage.

Marcos Loyalists are the only ones who are vociferous in criticizing Sison and COMMUNISM!!!. That is why Sison is murdering them one by one. Nobody would be glad with his tactic. Murder is murder. One reason why I want the Marcoses to be rich. Bodyguards amount to 1 million pesos per year. Sison openly has been threatening the lives of the Marcoses.

Mar Roxas supports Noynoy for president

Saying that somebody "has to make a sacrifice," Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas II indicated Tuesday that he is giving way to his party-mate Sen. Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III as the standard bearer of the Liberal Party in the 2010 presidential elections.

"Noynoy Aquino and I share the outrage in the mess we are all in," Roxas said in an early evening press conference Tuesday at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City organized by the Liberal Party.

"I want to make a difference," he added. "I am the president of the Liberal party. It is within my power to preside over a potentially divisive process or to make the party a bridge for the forces of change."

"Today I'm announcing my support for the candidacy of Noynoy Aquino for president in 2010," Roxas said.

Roxas had long been groomed as LP's standard bearer in next year's presidential elections. Following the death of former president Corazon Aquino last Aug. 1 there has been a public clamor for Noynoy Aquino to run in next year's elections for the nation's top post.

The Liberal Party has yet to formally announce its candidates in next year's elections.

During the press conference, Roxas did not categorically state if he will be the running-mate of Aquino, who was present but did not speak during the event.

The thing is, Noynoy will be a worthy president IF he is able to clean all the baho associated with his late mother and father. Gawin niya yun and he has a clear road to the presidency kahit mandaya pa ang black dwende at kapre combined.

FYI. EDSA 1 was a kudeta by the worthless duo FVR and Enrile dahil hindi sila pala ang papalit sa kapangyarihan when Marcos dies - its Cojuangco and company. Nang malaman nila na pipisain na sila ni Marcos - akala nila matalino pa sila kay Marcos dahil may sakit ito - ay nangamba sila sa buhay nila. Itong bwisit na Sin nag-negotiate ng deal and pumayag naman si Cory dahil its an opportunity to get back and syempre epek a change.

There was no killing then dahil ayaw ni Marcos. Si Ver was all for it to kill people but hindi pumayag si Marcos.

Anong nangyari after that? Wala. Puro blackouts and baon sa utang. Napalitan lang ang mga kurakot and we now all look back that Marcos has done more than all those that came after combined.

Marcos was hell bent to correct his mistakes back then. We would've been the Switzerland of Asia if things pushed through. From banking to medicine. Problem lang ay yun hangarin ni Marcos na maging nuclear power tayo (way ahead of North Korea then) which wasn't approved by the US. Itanong ninyo yan sa mga officials and lalo na sa mga namumuno sa UP nuclear program.

If it were up to me, itong si Noynoy should support instead Panlilio.

he is capitalizing on her mother's death. the extensive TV coverage of his mom by ABS-CBN, a close friend of Cory Aquino will help noynoy's campaign. Would he have ran if his mom did not die? . Personally, if we go by his accomplishments in the legislature, what has he accomplished ? Aside from being the son of Cory, what has he accomplished ?

its not his legislative accomplishment that made some people urge him to run for president, its his perceived "lack of the taint of corruption" .

That may be true, but thats just the perception right now, but come campaign time, you can bet that bad odors will be coming out not just for noynoy but for all the candidates. All these candidates will be maligned whether true or not so that equalizes all of them which means the ultimate criteria will be the accomplishments of the candidates.

If Noynoy becomes president Sison will not be able to find a good excuse to malign him the way he did to Marcos or is doing to Arroyo who is allegedly 'unclean'. The man is clean. The only issue left is communism. And we and the electorate who elected bourgoisie legislators, know that it does not work. The best thing to do is to allow all candidates to present their own platform and criticize each other's or personally but when it comes to Sison, we all are in unison in protecting all bourgoisie candidates of Philippines.

He reiterated that he and girlfriend Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad do not have any wedding plans.
The two were seen at a big public gathering for the first time yesterday. Soledad stayed away from the limelight during the wake and burial of Aquino’s mother, former President Corazon Aquino, who died of colon cancer on Aug. 1.

Soledad herself said they were not engaged but was quiet most of the time and gave very brief statements.
“Pasensya na po, pasensya po muna,” she said.
But Soledad said she, her family and the people of Valenzuela would support Noynoy. “He has been unselfish in many ways and what he did today is another unselfish act,” Soledad said.
Noynoy said Shalani would be busy with her own campaign and that they were from different political parties

EDITORIAL - The package tells what is inside

(The Freeman) Updated September 10, 2009 12:00 AM

It did not come as a surprise when Noynoy Aquino announced yesterday his acceptance of the clamor for him to run for president in next year's general election. When the clamor arose, there was no way he could reject it, nor would the crowds allow him to.

The bigger surprise would have been if Noynoy rejected the clamor. People would have been genuinely stunned by a real display of honesty and fortitude. The argument about giving power to one who did not want it would have been unshakably sustained if he refused power.

But the crowds around Noynoy already knew his decision even before he said it. There was no hint of anxiety or uncertainty in the faces of those who rushed to his press conference. In fact the air was festive. The hordes knew their politics and how it would turn out.

This early, therefore, it is already clear there will not be any change or reform under a Noynoy Aquino administration, in case he wins. This is not to say he will not try. We are not disputing the inherent goodness of Noynoy, so he will try. But will he succeed?

It is sad that after going into a retreat Noynoy still failed to discern what had been very obvious from the start: That nobody gave a damn about him until his mother died and that when the crowds showed up some people saw in their numbers the formula for their own interests.

Nobody has a monopoly of wanting only good for this country. Those who surround Noynoy may be fired by an honest desire for change and reform. But not all of them. Far more are in it for their own gain. We have seen it played out over and over again.

To be sure there is always a first time. But not this time. The first time was with Cory. But we not only failed her. We also botched our only chance. Believe it or not, but this time it is still all about chances of winning, not about change, and certainly not reform.

Principles do not vary with personalities. If this had been about principles, Noynoy could just as well have assigned the so-called Cory Magic to Mar Roxas by standing by him, even becoming his running mate. He could have told the nation this was what Cory wanted.

But this is more about winning. Roxas was just not winnable. So switches has to be made at terrible cost. But no matter, as long as winning is assured. And if this is the package, then we already know what is inside.

10,000 sign up as poll volunteers for Aquino

September 14, 2009 18:46:00

MANILA, Philippines — They are not merely pledging their votes to him.

Peachy Prieto, one of the conveners of the Noynoy Aquino for President Movement (NAPM), said 10,000 have so far signed up as volunteers for the presidential campaign of Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III in the 2010 elections.

Right after Aquino declared his candidacy, the NAPM, who had gathered signatures of people wanting him to run for president, has shifted to mounting a “people’s campaign.”

“We were receiving calls and e-mails from people, mostly abroad, inquiring about Noynoy’s campaign,” he said.

Prieto said the volunteers could choose how they would want to help: recruit more volunteers, educate the voters on the automated poll, distribute leaflets, put up posters, attend mass actions, undertake secretarial work at the NAPM center, campaign for Aquino, serve as poll watchers and finance events or campaign materials.

The membership has been notably expanding with provincial chapters opening up in Baguio, Dumaguete, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Leyte, Bukidnon, and Tawi-Tawi, she said.

“What is important to remember is that this is a people-initiated campaign,” she said.

NAPM plans to host picnics and contests to produce campaign materials for Aquino and afterwards, mobile stores on wheels will roam around the country to sell products as a fund-raising project.

The movement is also considering selling “lugaw” (porridge) meals to raise funds.

Prieto pointed out that the since the NAPM was formed, they have not had to convince people too much to join their cause. “People just come and send their messages through text and e-mail,” she said.

She said members of the NAPM were jubilant with the results of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showing that 50 percent of the 1,200 respondents in vote-rich Luzon areas favored Aquino as president.

“How encouraging to know that Noynoy now has the markets of (Sen. Manny) Villar and (former President Joseph) Estrada,” she added, noting that majority of the respondents who chose Aquino came from Class D and E.

Villar and Estrada were leading the SWS and Pulse Asia’s surveys in the past months.

The website www.napm2010.com, which contains updates and contents about Noynoy and his platform of governance, remains under construction but will be up by the end of the week, according to Prieto.

10,000 sounds too exact . why didnt he say 1,000 ? or 100,000 ? =) i'm not convinced.... both the abs-cbn and daily inquirer have already been reported as being sure pro-aquino media outlets.

I think its wrong to vote for a candidate just because he is the son of a hero and heroine(even the hero/heroine part of his parents is debatable, but that is a different topic)... Noynoy, the son has to prove that he can do it, but how can he prove if his proof are only verbal promises ? I would rather base my vote on a candidate's past accomplishments. sorry if I'm being a party pooper or being cynical, but just the fact that Noynoy is running for president after his mother died is obviously riding on his mother's popularity, now if that is not cynical or opportunistic, I dont know. Before his mother died, was he even on the presidential candidate radar ?

I hope voters will vote on the basis of the accomplishments of a person not on perceptions of not being corrupt. would you rather have a corrupt-free but weak economy? or a strong economy with corruption ? or something in between ? these are difficult choices...

Noynoy is already 50 years old, but what has he accomplished that will make him the right person to vote for? Fellow filipinos specially from the uneducated lower classes are easily swayed by eloquent fiery speakers, but can verbal promises put food on their table? would you rather have a saintly speaker(good with words)? or a bad-boy doer(action man) ? or something in between? The point of my questions is that in the real world we oftentimes need to live with compromises. Just something to think about. You may get your idealistic wish, but be prepared to suffer if ever your wish becomes a nightmare. Anyway, we all need to reflect carefully on who we will vote for and not be swayed by emotions, and the bombastic speeches and promises of the candidates. Actions speak louder than words so please do your country a favor, read carefully and analyze the accomplishments of the presidential candidates. Reflect on who can best lead not only our government but also our economy(which I think is the most practical criteria of all !!!!! ) .

Noynoy tops Cebu survey! :thumb:

http://politics.inquirer.net/view.php?db=1...20090923-226575

CEBU CITY, Philippines - Former Cebu Gov. Emilio "Lito" Osmena has confirmed that Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III emerged as top contender in a survey on presidentiables he conducted recently in the province of Cebu.

"Even if you put together all the other presidentiables they could not match the rating of Noynoy Aquino," Osmeña said in an interview on Tuesday evening.

However, Osmeña explained that he did not want to show the results of the survey since it was confidential.

In fact, he refused to give details as to the mechanics of the survey and the number of respondents.

Osmeña told the INQUIRER that he conducted the survey for the information of his group Probinsya Muna Development Initiatives (Promdi), which he has revived as a non-government organization. The former governor had first established Promdi as a political party.

"It's actually running surveys, to include the local scene like mayor, congressman, governor and of course, presidentiables," Osmeña said.

When informed that INQUIRER received the information on the survey from former Negros Occidental Gov. Daniel Lacson Jr., he reiterated that the results of the survey should remain confidential.

Lacson had earlier claimed that a survey conducted by Osmeña in Cebu province last Sept. 15 showed that Aquino was leading at 51 percent.

Senator Manuel Villar came in second with 22 percent, followed by Vice President Noli de Castro at 14 percent, Senator Chiz Escudero at 7 percent and former president Joseph Estrada at 6 percent. Both Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro and Senator Jamby Madrigal were at zero percent, Lacson further revealed.

Osmeña did not confirm the figures given by Lacson but he said that these were similar to the results of the survey.

While he admitted that he was an ally of the late President Corazon Aquino, Osmeña said it did not mean that he would support Senator Aquino. "I don't know Noynoy," he disclosed.

Website speaks about Noynoy’s ‘dark past’

By: Alfred P. Dalizon. Journal, Oct 26, 2009

YEARS before the People’s Tonight came up with the identity of Charlotte Datiles, the young Miriam College student who was shot dead by rebel soldiers while she was with leading presidential candidate Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III during the August 1987 coup d ‘etat, it was learned that there were comments about the incident being posted already on a local website.

The website called PinoyExchange has a dedicated space on critics and defenders of the only son of the revered late President Corazon C. Aquino, People’s Tonight discovered while writing the story on Datiles.

On an Aug. 1, 2005, 11:26 p.m. comment, one who goes by the name ‘dairycreamer’ asked “is the woman he’s with in the car Charlotte Datiles? Eh bakit ang chika he came from merville subd in Parañaque after a lover’s tiff with... at pabalik hinarang ng ram kasi driver lang at 2 bodyguards ang kasama.)

Another who goes by the name “Colnago” on Feb. 26, 2005, 12:07 p.m. wrote: He lives off his dad’s legacy siguro. He’s single probably because the last girl he dated got shot while with him. Natakot na ‘yung iba.”

The incident now appears to haunt Senator Aquino at a time when he is on the turning point of his political career. In the incident, three of Noynoy’s security escorts were reported killed.

However, People’s Tonight learned that one of the “bodyguards” was a young and beautiful student of an exclusive school for girls: “Charlotte Datiles.”

Datiles, a student of Miriam College, was reportedly a girlfriend of Noynoy.

Datiles was never identified by Malacañang or in any police report. Media reports quoting Noynoy said that three of his companions were killed in the attack. Two of them were identified as “Sergeants Alvaro and Santos.” The third fatality, who turned out to be the young Datiles, was never identified by the Palace or by Noynoy.

Several sources including a relative of the slain student who spoke with the Journal Group on condition of anonymity answered the PinoyExchange website comment when they confirmed that Datiles died while she was with Aquino although she was never mentioned in any report or statement given by the Palace or the male Aquino to the public.

For unknown reasons, however, the relative has declined to return calls by People’s Tonight over the past several days as well as a request for her picture or even say where is she buried.

I am not in favor at all of family dynasties. I don't believe that sons and daughters of politicians should be favored candidates. it is so unfair to other political candidates that a son or daughter will be the chosen one just because he/she has an illustrious parent..... does not make sense ...., and only perpetuates the notion that to succeed in the Philippines , one needs to have connections or be influential. there is no meritocracy and gives a bad example to our children.

NOYNOY’S DARK SECRET

By: Alfred P. Dalizon
Girlfriend’s unreported death Aquino’s Chappaquiddick?

SEN. Noynoy Aquino, who is leading presidential surveys, is being hounded by an incident which occurred 22 years ago which can be likened to the Chappaquiddick scandal that doomed US. Sen. Ted Kennedy’s presidential ambition.

The ghost of a young woman who died when Noynoy was attacked in Malacañang during one of the uprisings that shook the presidency of his mother, Corazon Aquino, now appears to haunt Noynoy at a time when he is on the turning point of his political career. In the incident, three of Noynoy’s security escorts were reported killed. However, one of the “bodyguards” was a young and beautiful student of an exclusive school for girls " Charlotte Datiles.

A People’s Journal source, a close relative of Datiles, said they could not do anything then because the Aquinos were in power. “Sen. Aquino now has to explain that incident well to avoid big trouble similar to what happened to the famous American senator,” the source said.

In the August 28, 1987 incident, the media reported that the only son of President Aquino was hit in the head and right arm when the Land Cruiser he was riding was shot at by rebel soldiers attacking Malacañang.

A Filipino and an Australian photographer were also killed when rebel soldiers tried to seize the presidential palace.

Malacañang claimed that Noynoy, along with some bodyguards and other companions, was on his way home to Times Street in Quezon City when they came under heavy fire from the mutineers positioned along J.P. Laurel St. two blocks away from the Palace.

Constabulary 2nd Class Juan Sono was seriously injured when the rebels strafed the back-up car he was riding. Also injured in the attack was Alden Alag, then a reporter of Philippine Star and now an elected public official in Romblon.

A day after the attack, Aquino told the Malacañang press that he was not seriously injured in the dawn attack. He said that he was at the Dasmarinas Village residence of Executive Secretary Joker Arroyo when he heard radio reports that Malacanang and other government installations were under attack prompting him to rush to the Palace on board his white Mercedes Benz 200 trailed by a security vehicle.

Aquino said he later found out that three of his bodyguards died but he did not mention the name of Datiles. He added that although he was armed with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, he chose not to fire back.

A website called PinoyExchange had a small item about Aquino and Datiles in connection with the August 1987 coup. “Is the woman he’s with in the car Charlotte Datiles?” the post asked.

Several sources including a relative of the slain student who spoke with the Journal Group on condition of anonymity answered the PinoyExchange website comment when they confirmed that Datiles died with Aquino although she was never mentioned in any report.

“She died like a pig but the Palace and Noynoy Aquino did not care then. Masakit mang sabihin pero parang baboy lang na namatay si Charlotte kasama si Noynoy pero wala kaming magawa. Sila yung nasa kapangyarihan noon kaya natago nila pati yung pangalan ni Charlotte,” the relative who used to be a government official said.

Observers now compare that incident with the infamous Chappaquiddick incident where Sen. Ted Kennedy’s name was blemished amid speculations that he used his name to escape justice.

In the Chappaquiddick accident which took place on July 18, 1969, 28-year- old teacher, secretary and political campaign specialist Mary Jo Kopechne drowned after Kennedy drove his car off a bridge in Chappaquiddick Island in Massachussetts. Kennedy escaped but Kopechne was trapped in the car.

Kennedy did not report the accident until about 10 hours later. He was ultimately found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident and was given a two-months jail sentence.

Although Kennedy recovered from the scandal, the incident doomed his chances for the U.S. presidency as he had a failed run in 1980.

MANILA, Philippines—Liberal Party’s Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III emerged on the top spot of the October 2009 Pulse Asia survey with the “big lead” over other presidential hopefuls for next year’s elections.

The nationwide survey, conducted from October 22 to 30, was undertaken solely by Pulse Asia on the “Filipinos’ Presidential Preference for the May 2010 Elections.”

Forty-four percent of the respondents said they would elect Aquino as the next President if the May 2010 elections were held now. Following Aquino were Senator Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party (NP) with 19 percent, Senator Francis G. Escudero with 13 percent, and former President Joseph Estrada with 11 percent.

The other presidential hopeful included in the survey registered at most 4 percent, including Vice President Noli De Castro who got 4 percent and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, standard-bearer of the administration party Lakas-Kampi-CMD, who got 2 percent.

Less than one in ten Filipinos (4 percent) does not have a favored presidential candidate at the moment, according to the survey.

the Gibo-Edu tandem is doomed!

Even if their wisdom, character and personalty is quite somewhat beyond reproach, yes, they are doomed because they belong to the bad crew who steer the nation into what it is now that only blindfolded supporters beat their drums for them.

After following all the candidates track record, qualifications , speeches, and achievements, I will vote for either villar or gibo because noynoy is just too much of a non-achiever and vague with his speeches. As a matter of principle, I just cannot vote because of celebrity endorsements and all those yellow ads . Essentially, noynoy is campaigning on the basis of hope trying to emulate or copy barack obama. The problem is that there is no comparison. Obama is brilliant while noynoy is simply not, and even on the basis of hope, the harsh lights of reality always lowers the expectations of hope. noynoy's mother also represented hope but what did her administration bring? cory brought hopelessness instead of hope. Under her administration, there were 7 coup de etats, daily brownouts, transportation shortages, very poor economy, political instability due to weak leadership etc. Most of the younger voters today are too young to remember the nightmare of trying to survive under the cory administration. noynoy is just continuing a political family dynasty so he does not bring anything new to the political landscape. He has not explained with clarity and convincing proof the questions about the private highway exit into hacienda Luisita and the high price of their land sold to make way for the highway. The one thing big going for noynoy is the celebrity image buildup done to him by abs-cbn. Anyway, I'm just not the person who votes on the basis of emotion, popularity or bandwagon mentality(he is leading therefore i will vote for him).
Good luck to whoever are your candidates !

This country is already fed up of experienced, professionally elite and wealthy but corrupt politicians that put the country's misery into it's worst level. Regardless of what sector in the society supports and endorsed Noynoy's bid he remains to be what he is.
Nevertheless, he is still the one closest to anyone's choice. As a matter of fact he could'nt be the perfect candidate for president to be the perfect man to lead the country. There's nothing the Filipinos can do. The perfect man has to be born yet. The choice is between the evil and the lesser evil.

Noynoy Aquino is not perfect, no one is, but compared to the other candidates, he is a SAINT.

And the Philippines today needs a SAINT for a President, no matter how incompetent he is perceived to be.
