| If you want to learn more, you can read this free PDF version of the book "The Bear Went Over the Mountain: Soviet Combat Tactics in Afghanistan": http://www.ndu.edu/inss/books/Books%20-%20...2096/BrOrMn.pdf this is a compilation of true combat action reports from us junior officers submitted to higher command and compiled by the Frunze Military Academy. Two engagements of which I'm personally involved have been included in the book. The combat experiences we had in Afghanistan fighting fanatic mujahideen/insurgents could be useful in training small unit tactics to AFP soldiers at battalion, company or platoon level and should be required reading for AFP cadets in your military academy and even civilian enthusiasts in this forum so as to understand the intricacies and difficulties of fighting non-linear guerrilla war as what is being engaged in Basilan. This is very informative book, many of you here both military and civilian will learn a lot from it and hopefully make you understand why your military is fighting a noble but difficult war versus Muslim terrorists who used tactics taught to them by our former mujahideen foes in Afghanistan. |
