http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/FlashNewsStory....?FlashOID=22979Taking a cue from the Armed Forces general headquarters, the Army announced Friday that it will implement a reorganization next month with the abolition of three general staff offices including the alleged center of corruption, the office of the comptroller.
Starting February 1, the Army’s offices of the assistant chief of staff for comptrollership or G-6; of civil-military operations (G-7) and for education and training (G-8) will be abolished.
Lt. Gen. Generoso Senga, the Army commander, said the move is aimed at instituting control measures on its financial operations and streamlining staff organization to be able to save resources in terms of personnel, equipment and funds with the end objective of enhancing operational capabilities of the operating units.
Senga also said this is in line with the reforms being undertaken by Gen. Efren Abu, Armed Forces chief of staff, who ordered the abolition of the office of the deputy chief of staff for comptrollership, the former post of suspected plunderer Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia and three other offices at the general headquarters.
Col. Anthony Alcantara, the present commander of G-7, explained that with the abolition of G-6, its functions will be absorbed by the Army Resource Management Office, the Army Internal Audit and the Management Fiscal Office.
As for G-7 and G-8, Alcantara said their functions will be absorbed by the assistant chief of staff for operations (G-3).
Because of this, Alcantara said that at the start of February, the Army will only have seven general staff offices. There used to be 10.
“Measures have been placed to ensure that core activities, essential to mission accomplishment of offices deactivated are retained,” said Alcantara.
Senga said the restructuring will make the Army headquarters and its subordinate units leaner and will improve the personnel fill-up of subordinate units as personnel affected by the restructuring will be assigned to the field.
Senga said the Army is expected to save P20.9 million pesos from the reorganization.
