Mine-protected Casspir APCs are viable transport vehicles for our troops. South Africa has a lot of refurbished Casspirs for sale.

I think the military is developing an indigenous armored vehicle, I just forgot the name. But I think its similar to the Simba.

The Dingo
user posted image
The Israeli answer to armored hummers is the German Dingo. This vehicle is actually a commercial Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 4 x 4 truck with an armored body. The vehicle, with armor, weighs 4.4 tons and normally carries a driver and four passengers (although as many as seven people can squeeze in). It's roughly similar in size and capability to an armored hummer. Israel is buying a hundred of the Dingos. The vehicles will be used for patrolling hostile areas, where small arms fire and roadside bombs may be encountered. The German army has also bought 56 Dingos.

Enough of wheeled vehicles, if we can't afford the Bradley then we go for refurbished M113s or the Gavins.

For light duties, I like this:

The Light RAM. This is a smaller, scout/recon version of the Israeli RAM personnel carrier. The light RAM can be carred in threes inside a C-130, or one inside a CH-53 helicopter. The hull is shortened, and the sides raised, to provide maximum protection to standing occupants. The light RAM has large side doors for entry. The RAM comes in different versions so commonality of parts would be a plus in any AF's inventory.

Anyway, I found this report about our home-grown MX-1 Kalakian.

The Military Equipment Directory

If the MX-1 is cheaper than exported ones, then I say get more! Anything is better than nothing.

Heya Singa, Welcome to our Forums.

That Thunderbolt looks like the cancelled US M8 Buford AGS. You mean Singapore bought the design from the US?

I agree that the Bionix looks like a good platform. Question is: how much is it? Its not as if we have bottomless pockets like you do... smile.gif

And you forgot your Terrex.

Nothing to it really. The MX-1 is actually an enlarged Simba so there... So the Thunderbolt/Buford is in service in the SAF now? Where they meant to replace your Centurions?

Anyway, I've always liked the Buford as an AIFV. It puzzles me to no end why the US Army chose the glorified APC that is the Stryker over the Buford.

The M8 Thunderbolt IS the XM8 Buford AGS light tank. The only difference is that they changed the old 105mm cannon with a 120mm.

Its a good tank that was supposed to serve in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne. Unfortunately, they got fucked by the Stryker mafia who reversed the order. angry.gif

82nd Airborne fields M8 Buford AGS Light tank!

I also want some amphibious MTVLs.... tongue.gif
