9ID should have chosen a more creative nick instead of "Spear" because 3ID already is "Spearhead"

and 19IBs "Commando" sounds false because we know that they are not commandos, just regular infantry.

I heard Malacanang is changing the presidential seal. It's gonna be a condom. A condom because it more accurately reflects the administration's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed.

Why does it sound false? Do you know their history? Do you know how they got the monicker? Do you know how they operate? Do you know why other unite would jokingly call them the eveready battalion?

If you base it from what you see in the movies or read in the books it will definitely be a misnomer. But if you research more and find out what Commando means in our local Army Parlance and research the history of the 19th IB then you will be enlightened. It you use the meaning of Commando from our Army then the British Commando are not suppose to be called as such.

The 2nd ID is definitely my favorite. I watched their band perform at The Battle of The Uniform Bands recently and boy did they put up a show!

604th Infantry Brigade is also "Spearhead". Spearhead is a bitch of a word in the Army.

Sir B6;

Puso mo!! If I'll follow the logic e di dapat hindi "Tabak" and 1st Infantry Division, dapat "Armalite" kasi yun ang ginagamit nila e. lol.gif

Seriously, eto na yung brief history ng 19th IB, bakit sila tinawag na "Commando":

Originally, the unit’s name was “Bloodhound” which means a blood snipping dog used to track down the enemy by power of smell and can contain them vigorously in any opportune time regardless of weather, terrain and situation. The unit has proven it worth on early 50s during HukBalahap Campaign in Luzon and as Philippine Expeditionary Forces in Korea (PEFTOK). However, after returning back in the motherland from Korea the then 19th BCT was unfilled and the remaining members of the unit were reassigned in the different Army units nationwide. On early 70s during the height of secessionist movement in Mindanao the unit was reactivated as Infantry Battalion. The unit Logo was change from “Bloodhound” to “Commando” during the time of then COL RUPERTO A AMBIL JR as battalion commander.
The name “COMMANDO” means action, command, do or take charge of an immediate action. Historically, Commando units of the British and Australian Armies were the elite units that accomplished legendary feats during the 2nd World War. They were noted for daring and extra-ordinary combat skills in the Philippines, this referred to the guerillas, civilian armed partisans who defied the Japanese army during the HUK campaign in the 1950s, there were also civilian volunteers who infiltrated and attacked the enemy. Soldiers donned civilian clothed to blend with the populace in combat operations were described as COMMANDO. The same characteristics that the present 4-wheeled armored vehicles now issued to the different units of the AFP is also called COMMANDO or V-150 indicative of the combat effectiveness and readiness of the vehicle. The vehicle is light, fast, armored protected, adequately armed and can operate in the most difficult terrain. These capabilities aptly describe a COMMANDO.

yup, Region 8 - Eastern Visayas, storm alley, is the home of 8thID Storm Troopers. Credit to the 19thIB for neutralizing the insurgency in Leyte where the unit is based.

Go Commandos! pdff_smilesaludo.gif
