i just came from the JOBSDB.com Careers and Entrepreneurship Fair 2008 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City and, guess what? the Philippine Army is one of the exhibitors and has set up a recruitment booth. however, i was not able to take pictures because i did not want to make the PA personnel in the booth get conscious of me taking the booth's photos. PAsmile.gif

maybe this is now a common thing for the Army and other branches of the AFP to do- bring the recruitment centers in job fairs in Metro Manila and other parts of the country. PAwink.gif

Its a good strategy for the Army, recruitment booths in job fairs has a fair chancve of attracting college-educated recruits.

Better-educated recruits generally result to better-disciplined soldiers. Not always accurate gauge though.

Army to recruit 500 for new Panay battalion

ROXAS CITY, Philippines -- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Victor S. Ibrado has announced the recruitment of 500 more soldiers who would make up a new Army battalion to support the existing units in the Western Visayas region.

The 500 new recruits will make up the 82nd Infantry Battalion, said Major General Vicente Porto, chief of the 3rd Infantry Division based in Capiz province.

"The 82nd IB may be operational in the next few months," Porto said on Saturday.

He said the new battalion would strengthen the military's internal security operation in Western Visayas.

At present, there is only one battalion in Panay Island, the 47th IB based in Calinog town, Iloilo. Porto said one battalion was not enough to neutralize communist groups in the island so they needed to form another battalion.

Panay Island is composed of four provinces -- Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo. The New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) has three front committees in these provinces.

Ibrado, who served as 3rd Infantry Division chief in 2006, visited the Panay troops last May 2 and promised to minimize the insurgency problem by pourin in more troops.

The military chief admitted that he was worried by the recent attacks launched by the NPA in the central part of Panay Island.

Ibrado also called on the local governments to continue helping the military address the insurgency problem, saying the problem was also socio-economic.

He cited as model the cooperation extended by the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, and Leyte in the anti-insurgency campaign.

Part of their AOR will be Boracay. So, uhmm, their monicker should be "Beach Boys".

Boracay is now secured by an able elite unit.

The Navy SOG onboard PS38.

Nonetheless, it's good for Panay if it indeed has only 1 battalion though.

A battalion is commanded either by a senior major or a lt.col.

Actually, i remember that. But since there's ano versupply of generals then why not simply put him there until there's a slot vacated in the upper ranks?

Since, he's a general then it should mean he's an experienced batcom already.

Isn't that fitting for a province in dire need of a good commander and strategist?

I don't want to argue with you because I don't think you have a full understanding of the military organization. I don't know what you're talking about!

Are you aware of the implications? General officers are one point in their careers were BATCOMS, they rise until they become Brigade Commanders in-charge of 3-4 Battalions.

Now who among the general officers in the AFP would agree to a demotion of commanding a single battalion? hitthewall.gif

I don't there is one.
